My series I Mondial 500 came with a single FIAT key (top one below). I’d like to have a spare or two. How do they “size” these, or put differently, how do you know what you can use as a replacement? I see some different keys made by COBO, MAGNETI MARELLI, etc. How do I pick the right fit? Also, what what it have come with originally? Some of these photos I’ve found seem to have Bakelite on them and others don’t so I’m curious to know the differences.

    Thanks!

They were a standard universal military key. The bottom key by Magneti Marelli is the one most often seen on early Ferrari cars. A 12 penny nail will work in a pinch.

I would think any fabricator/machinist worth his/her file set or a lathe should be able to make a spare for something like that in an hour or so, especially if no brand imprint is needed.
