I want to turn over my motor but not start it. is it o.k to just unplug the coil pack power? I am trying to examine more than 2 inches of my timing belt. I am really nervous about driving this thing not knowing when the last service was done. I would feel a little better if I could verigy all the teeth are present.

Not sure about unplugging the coil pack but if you want to inspect your belts, pul off the top covers and look inside them. If there's a lot of rubber inside the covers, then you're definitely due for a change. Also feel under the belt with your fingers and see if you get any rubber to rub off on to your hands.

You could just put in 5th and roll the car a little, this would be a bit more controlled than turning it with the starter - and if the belt is so bad that you can see the damage by eye you don't really want to be turning it under power.

The belt looks fantastic with little dust on the cover. Maybe I should just stop worrying about it and drive. it til I can service it.

If you are this concerned, are you going to enjoy the driving? If you really don't know when the belt was serviced, it seems like it is due, otherwise you would know (ie, if it had been done you would probably have records.)

Do you want to risk engine catastrophe?

    Michael,

If I remember correctly, your car had the belts done in 1999 or 2000 @ Shelton Ferrari in Florida, I would think at around 15K miles, but not 100% sure on the mileage.
