Without a carbon tub to work from, everyone else is playing catch up.

Yep, compare any McLaren to a rival car- Mclaren will weigh less.

It's not just about the weight. Weight is part of it, but not the only thing. They are consistently 100's of pounds lighter than their competition. The carbon tub is such a hugely stiff platform from which to work from and stiffness enables the suspension to work more effectively. Light weight improves power to weight, which improves acceleration. Light weight means less inertia when you hit the corners or step on the brakes. That will improve handling and braking. If you have ever ridden a carbon bike vs a metal bike, you will understand the superiority from both light weight and stiffness.

Motorcylce or Bicycle? I'm not a fan of carbon bicycles because they don't feel as sturdy and reliable, but they are far easier to throw around

How much of McLaren's surging success is also about their tech?

Bicycle. My carbon bike feels amazingly stiff and sturdy. The turn in is brilliant and much like my Mac.

Anyone know if there is a carbon motorcycle out there? I am sure there is an exotic I don't know about, but I think most high-performance bikes are pretty light as they have a trellis frame and also use the engine as a stressed member.

Not to hijack the McLaren thread.
