    Hey everyone

So I have this radar detector, came with the car, not sure what kind it is, if anyone knows that, would appreciate info so I could see if I can find the manual.

Worked fine, then I refinished my ashtray, hence disassembled and reassembled, now it won't power on. No idea what the issue could be. It's wired up throughout the car, so I'd like to get it working.

When I reassembled, the two red wires on the push button switch were touching, not sure if I shorted something out, I'm not sure what this switch is for

Any help would be tremendously appreciated! I am way out of my element.

    Thank you!

Check power to your cig lighter.. maybe you blew fuse for that
Also i believe that is on/off switch for radar detector in ash tray

You have an Escort radar detector judging by the remote control unit you posted up. There's likely a fuse somewhere. I'd find the receiving unit and find the model number to get a manual and maybe find if there is a fuse.

    Damn I love this forum

    Thank you Joe!

    You mention 'receiving unit'

There are two, I'm guessing sensors, in front, one on each side (attached pic), sensor in the rear, and I found at least one module under the steering column which is I think radar detector related.

Probably the one under the steering column?

HMM .. check with voltage meter that you have power in and out of the switch in ash tray

Ground on one lead ( of tester) and one lead to one red and then the other

Looks like a 9500ci. Conceled radar detector. The three flat sensor things are your laser jammers. There should be another radar module, likely behind the bumper

Did you check both sides of switch and that switch works ..on/off etc by monitoring voltage on one of the red leads coming out ..I never like to assume ..if you did that already .. sorry

No prob, I'm clueless here, so thank you

I put the red lead on one wire and black on the other, and I'm getting readings

I'll try and do what you're saying so can see if the switch is working

Joe, I looked at the manual, it apparently doesn't require a fuse so not sure if there is one, clearly they are on the one that was installed on ebay

If there is, can't seem to find it

Another dumb question..is key on ..the cig lighter only get power iirc with key on

Set meter to volts ..one lead to ground and one to one red and then the other ..when you activate /deactivate switch you should see it on meter on one lead only

    Yes, key on

Thank you, I will try that. So for ground, I can just use like a metal bracket in the tunnel?

Unfortunately, everyone just got home. So I have to call it for tonight. I'll pick it up tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the help!

I just looked, it's not using cig lighter power at all, it is just mounted there, the main wires go into the tunnel toward the front, and prob go somewhere under the dash

It's the two black ones at the top of the pic

Ok - my mistake form looking at pic .. need to follow wires back under dash and see where it connects to power - i am sure like Joe said .. there will be a inline fuse
Still would be curious if you have power at switch .. maybe not 12 volts but should have some voltage using the method I stated above

Might be a wire tap into the fuse box. Wiring into the radio 12v is a common source as you have both constant and switched easily accessible so it could have the connection behind your head unit.
