The 250 lusso headliner and rear deck quilting is a flat-out must have on these cars

My 2001 has the dedication plate, quilted rear shelf & headliner, and the passenger floor mounted fire extinguisher...to name a few rare options.

Here are some photos of the Carrozzeria Scaglietti brochure I was referring to. Note Michael Schumacher is pictured in the brochure and the heading for the options even refers to the “550 Maranello Michael Schumacher” hence why many call a car so equipped as a Michael Schumacher edition 550! That being said, nothing is ever specified as to how many of these options a car needs to be equipped with to earn the right to be called such an edition.

And here are some photos of a car I recently found and purchased in Europe that has many of these options. You be the judge as to whether it should be called a Michael Schumacher edition, but the one option I especially love are the factory four point harnesses. Note the factory installed special leather covered mounting points for the belts on the rear shelf and the car doesn’t even have a cut-out in the normal position for the standard 3 point belt! Not even the 550 Barchetta’s that all came with carbon seats as standard have these four point belts, unless someone in Europe ordered one so equipped!

Another rabbit hole of rare options is the interior matching luggage.

My interior is Sabbia and there are so few total sets….and then so few Sabbia and then when you find them they are effectively NOS so the prices have been very “robusto”.

The FHP is in my opinion the only defintiive must have. I probably would not have cared about it if I had not found a 550 without it but as mine has it I would not want another 550 without it now.
The only other thing I wish mine had is the Daytona seats. I ignore if they feel different from the standard seats but they look better for sure.

Interesting-i prefer the 550 without the FHP and also don’t think the Daytona seats look that different to the standard ones!

Well, if roads in the UK are as bad as I can remember I can well understand that the extra stiffness of FHP probably does not make for the most compliant ride.

Don’t get the fhp pack it’s too rough but do get the Daytona seats. Because inside the seats are made different in Italy with much more added padding for comfort they make a big difference. I saw how the seats were made back then

This is not like you are ordering a new Ferrari. If you find a good 550 and it has something you do not like or is missing something you want, welcome to the world of used cars. Buy the best one you can find, FHP or no FHP, Daytonas or no Daytonas, quilted leather or not. Just buy a good one and be happy with what you get. Otherwise, you will waste all your driving time looking for the Holy Grail.

Well said. We are very lucky to be able to enjoy these magnificient cars in the first place. I can't help shaking my head in despair when I hear folks focused on the more modern Ferraris split hair on optional equipment, just like your average consumer guy walking up the alleys in the supermarket or browsing the option list on a German car. If an optional equipment changes radically the identity of a car then to me it means the engineers have not done their job properly. This is not what our "old" Ferraris are about in my opinion. They are all great regardless of specs and I did not mean to say that 550s without FHP are lesser cars but just than I love mine to bits partly thanks to the FHP as I usually like stiff suspensions on my cars and by some miracle it works well on a heavy car like the 550.

Seriously. These are old cars. Correction, they are old Ferraris. Be thankful they still run.

Were carbon seats with cloth centers available in the US? I have never seen it.

To this day I thought there were more wsr cars for the US. I had no idea there were only two. I feel like I knew or say like 10.... Turns out it was probably the same one 10 times.

    Lol.

Id guess the quilted shelf and headliner were rare in the US. Again... If carbon seats with cloth were available in the US....I would guess that has to be the rarest.

Taz might hit me on the head on this one;) but from his great input, all options were available in the US, except the roll cage-option. Cheers Patrik

I have quilted leather and the quilted headliner in my 550, and I'm one of the rare ones who actually prefers the carpet rear deck and regular headliner. The quilted leather reminds me too much of modern Bentleys, Mercs, etc.

Four-point harnesses were never available in the US either. Wouldn't pass US DOT rules.

I'm also in the minority there, thankfully rare and mine doesn't have it.

Also don't like decorative CF anywhere, but realize that's not a popular opinion either.
