This thread makes me sad as NOTHING was available when we ordered our car (was one of the first in the US).
Right, Michael. Even my 6-point Sabelt harnesses aren't DOT approved... Image Unavailable, Please Login They're approved by a higher authority; FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile).
Think how SEXY the carbon was especially back in the early 2000's. Love it on my 550. I bought my 1998 Ducati 916 in 2003 and it had quite a bit of carbon and then as I was able to add pieces back then in 2003 it's sexiness just kept going up due to how expensive and rare carbon was back then.
well that depends on how excited you get looking at it (oh wait this is not an off-topic thread, sorry!)
Is there an expiration date on 550/575M carbon fiber seats? The original 1995 omp CF racing seats in my F355 Challenge have these stickers. They had to be replaced after 5 years. Image Unavailable, Please Login I replaced them with omp ARS-R seats last year... Image Unavailable, Please Login I was concerned that my original CF seats had micro-cracks which would be a problem if I had an accident on the track.
The dates are mandated by FIA and are not mandated or necessary for street use. Different standards. The 550 and 575 seats are actually made by two different companies, the 575 being Sparco.
Another rarely optioned 550 is coming stateside to join the yellow car I posted about earlier in this thread! It's an FHP car with factor carbon seats and the factory installed roll bar! Rosso Corsa with grey leather interior. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rarest option must be central tunnel in leather. There have been 1 or 2 cars on BAT with this. From what i remember, in the comments it was said this was a factory option. I bet Taz will know the truth
To be clear you mean 575’s? I saw a 2004 575 with the leather tunnel last week and put a photo in the Monterey car week thread. That car also had a SA fuel door which was a cool touch but not as cool as Terry’s SA yellow tach.
FIA seats are not DOT legal for street unless they also have a dot sticker. Carbon fiber degrades with time that’s why the 5 year expiry date. Some club racing orgs extend the time with back braces.
Kinda mundane, but I added a factory spare tire to my car when I brought it used at FOH. I have not seen one since.
Cool. Was it ordered that way? I brought mine because the idea of driving the boondocks without a spare freaked me out.
Yes...it was ordered that way. Funny thing is if you ever had to use it the tire you take off won't fit anywhere. You would have to hang it out the back with the bonnet open. These cars are far from practical for anything. I also have most of the MSW stuff which makes this near perfect 550 tough to want to rip apart into a trackcar. I have always had my most fun with ferraris on track. My race days are nearing an end but I still like the track. So I keep the 550 to be my one day oldman track car.
Plenty of cars still have them standard but some you have to buy the spare. I'm a club racer and know what tires can do. Despite the lower performance envelope I'm a fan of runflat tires. Getting stuck somewhere especially not around home is a real PITA and can be dangerous. I don't want my wife or daughter's car to fail under any circumstances.
I had a feeling when I bought mine in 2014 that it was very heavy in options. I havent seen one since with a higher MSRP and those options. Image Unavailable, Please Login
