Hi Guys, I thought I’d share before and after pics of my re-dyed floor mats. Not bad for $3 and an hour or so. BEFORE... Thanks. I used Rit All-Purpose liquid dye in Tan. Got it from Michael’s Craft but it’s the same as you’d get in most supermarkets. One 8 oz. bottle was enough to do it.
Looks great !! Funny how Ferrari used a slightly different coloured carpet/ fabric on the door for the speaker covers compared to the floor carpets.
Not at all. Feels the same as before. I understand the aerosol paint-type dyes can do that. This was a liquid dye and carpet stayed nice and plush.
Not sure what that is. I bought the tan Rit dye and tested it on my old floor mats to ensure the color matched. Then I did it.
Yeah, was sun bleached. Now it all matches the carpet on the doors and the areas of the carpet that weren’t exposed to sun light.
Yes, this was all about dying the carpets. I was just saying that I tested the color on my old mats first to ensure that I matched the carpet on the doors. Once I was satisfied that the match was good, I dyed all of the carpets (not the mats). I happen to have new mats on order which I had color matched to the door carpet so I’m hopeful that that they’ll match the newly dyed carpets.
Hey Guys, Yes, I dyed them in place and had put a towel over the seats and taped the edges of the console, etc. though I will say that where I did hit the edge of the console or leather seatbelt winders, the dye wiped right off with no staining. Obviously, I wouldn’t recommend waiting as I imagine that it’ll ultimately stain but I had no issues. The solution I used was approx 50/50 hot water and dye in a spray bottle. After spraying an area, I would brush the wet dyed carpet in every direction to make sure that it was worked down into the pile. I have to say that I had a lot of concerns about overspray, unevenness on the carpets, etc. but the process was a lot easier than I would have thought. Hope this helps.
Wow, 50/50? Thanks, I would have mixed it according to the directions on the bottle. After you sprayed, did you just let it dry?
The procedure I watched was. Mix 50/50 hot water. Another bottle pure water. Clean carpets. Spray the carpet with water to add in adherence and uniform absorption. Spray dye evenly on carpet. Brush in all directions. Let dry 24hrs or until dry. Rebrush if needed.
