Bench testing before installation. First Earth blue lead in optical trigger connector to generate spark and check ignition module working. Then connect the optical trigger and use a piece of back card to cut the beam and test the trigger. The system certainly gives a healthy spark! Hello Adrian, My name is David, I am french, i leave in ORLEANS and i would like to put an Bosch ignition + coil and luminetion optical on my dino fiat coupé 2400. The same as Fred from the "Blog dino". Is it possible to do that for me? How much is it for parts and your work to transform it? I wait for your reply. Best regards, David LONG Tel: +33 6 64 75 65 62
Hi David, i am happy to help you sourcing the components and can give support & send documentation and infos for the Fiat Dino conversion, but don't offer conversions as a commercial service. Send me an email to [email protected] to get in touch. Best, Adrian
Guys, i found two additional rotor kits for the distributor optical conversion, which do not require creating a shim as the FK.425 does, but both need a modification of the rotor as they are a tad too small in diameter. One is Lumenition FK.009 (MOTORCRAFT FORD OHC/V6), the other one is Lumenition FK.124 (LUCAS DM6). Both kits even have a lower price than the FK425. So if you don't mind milling out the rotor a bit, these may be a good choice, otherwise go for the FK.425. From a functional perspective there is no difference between the three kits, its just how they are installed.
Thanks Adrian and Daviekj for a great thread. I am doing Adrian's Bosch conversion at the moment using Daviekj's detailed report. For the Aussies contemplating this conversion, all parts are readily available from local sources.
AusDino and anyone else thinking of converting to Adrian's set up, I am pleased to report that all is working well 6 months on. Starting is significantly better than my original set up and faultless (apart from my original tempremental starter). Running is perfect. I have not removed the distributor cap since, even for the service. Only disappointment is that I have not had cause to remove the cover in the trunk to see the restored Dinoplex box and neat wiring. One correction i forgot to update in the notes above. When drilling out the thyristor a larger drill diameter can and should be used to release it. Choose a drill that just takes out the threads in the casting. The thread is not needed and cannot be seen after. Kevin.
Thanks Kevin for the update. I'm glad everything is running well. I have already done the hi-torque starter motor and iridium plugs which has improved the car starting immensely. Some of the black resin stuck in one of my housings as well - fun stuff to remove.
Adrian, you can just buy the chopper out of the fk425 kit and make your own mounting plate as Kevin did. Part #20368 6 blade chopper - about half the price of the kit.
AusDino, thanks for the input! FK009 and FK124 kits are about half the price of FK425 so i am looking for the rotor part numbers of these, but havent found any yet. The rotor/chopper in FK124 has the internal part #411 but that does not seem to be a valid spare part number (maybe #20411?). If you tell us the build year and original country of delivery of your Dino i could post the wire length and wiring of a factory trunk replica wiring for the converted AEC103 and Bosch coil. Good luck, Adrian
Peter, here are the modifications for the external wiring. The modification requires adding two new wires (black/red) for connecting the coil and moving the brown tach wire to the Dinoplex connector. Good luck, Adrian Image Unavailable, Please Login
