Let me add to the Bosch "torpedo fuse" that they are garbage. Torpedo Fuses: The Bane of Classic German Automobiles | cek.log (kindel.com)
This thread calls into play a site policy. The site policy effected is trying to address the two kinds of posts on a DIY/project thread. The first are the posts that describe a problem and a solution. We welcome those as sharing with the community. The second type of posts are the eventual outcome of most DIY/project threads, which is a solution of some kind, that results in a group buy or tooling bought and paid for and some level of small scale production. This results in solicitations for sale and requests for availability. The second type of posts are in conflict with our policy that there should be no business conducted in the discussion forums, business should be conducted in the classified ad section. Veiled references to contacting the solution developer for "project details" are considered a circumvention as these invariably result in continued requests for availability. The approved process is to, once the DIY/project enters the solution available for sale phase, have the DIY/project solver post an ad in the classified ad section to offer the solution for sale and then post a link to the ad in the original DIY/project thread and direct all further inquiries to the ad. The thread can still remain for additional questions and improvements to the solution, but any and all availability questions should be directed to the ad. 1. I've locked this thread until the OP subscribes ($15 per year for Silver and posts a for sale ad there) 2. Please keep this thread to a discussion of the technical solution only, not parts for sale 3. Once the OP has created an ad in the Classifieds if someone will PM me I'll open this thread back up. Thanks!
Yay! After over a year, this thread is now unlocked (cuz I finally did all the things requested above . Thank you @GatorFL Per the guidelines, please use this thread if you have technical questions or comments. If interested in acquiring a fusebox or have questions about how to acquire, refer to the thread in the Classifieds section. Thanks!
As a public FYI, my order for one of Jason's fuse blocks, as fully described above, arrived today. And, WOW, is this sure a super-high-quality piece of kit! Significantly higher quality than the original, installing one of these is a Must Do if you've ever encountered any electrical gremlins traceable back to the original dodgy OEM blocks ( .... and, really now, haven't we all?). In my case, I won't be able to install mine into my 308 for a while, but I fully anticipate a simple plug-n-play operation. Two Thumbs Up! Thanks, Jason! DM
Fuseblock R&R is a simple project for DIY with just a bit of care and good photos. I installed mine from TurtleFarmer last year and agree it a thing of beauty, and well made. Its a shame it’s hiding behind the dash cover.
What are the thoughts about the use of a small dab of a copper-based grease on the fuseblock-to-wire terminals during the install?
Personally, I would avoid using a conductive grease here. Any errant grease could allow voltage/current where it's not desired. Clean and dry works fine. If you are worried about corrosion (which shouldn't be a worry inside the car) you might use a dab of dielectric grease.
Update: Unable to wait any longer, I've just now completed my installation of Jason's fuseblock. Without a doubt, this item is one of the Most Impressive 'aftermarket' parts that I have ever seen! A perfect fit in every aspect, and super-easy (just one hour) to install. The only slightly tricky part was just to ensure that you labeled each OEM wire end connector accurately before disassembly of the old fuse block, so that you could reinstall them without doubt in their correct orientation and order. And Jason's 'test light' button feature with the corresponding LED lights allows you to instantly see at a glance whether each fused circuit is energized - it's BETTER than OEM standards in quality and foresightedness! Installed my fuse block from Jason this evening. Huge upgrade! Thanks Jason! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I really like this design. Were these fuse blocks ever put into production to be sold? Not talented enough to make my own!
