Does anyone remember the black and white picture (I believe its in poster form) in the 70's period of a Berlinetta boxer that slid off a snow laden road and it was resting on its side in the trees? The owner/driver was up in the road lighting up a cigarette quite non-chalantly.

The caption was something like: Good tires but not great tires.

Is this a poster and does anyone know where I can get it? Nothings like it on ebay.

It's a Road & Track photo from the PS, last page.

I have it. ;) It was up on my garage wall before the move.
It has disappeared in chaos, right now.

You want a copy? It may also be in the "50 years of Art" R&T book, but I'm not sure of this.

"Good tires", he thought, lighting a cigarette, "but certainly not GREAT tires."

For a long time I had it up next to the F40 that the Japanese dentist smacked thru the Marshall's Station in the Aussie Cannonball. Death Toll: 4

That was back when totalling a Ferrari was a fairly rare event.

Seems like once a week, now that distribution goes down to hockey stars and rock musicians!

Any one have a pic of Road and tracks cover of the boxer and countach top speed shoot out out circa 1984..It left an indelible impression in my mind .I think the shot was on a banked track with either a red boxer and a black countach...or maybe another with just the boxer... Would love to see that again... even read the shootout test.

Hah! Gary, I had just pulled that magazine out of the stack and scanned it, you beat me to it by about two minutes. But on mine, the cover price is shown as $1.75. Why the difference?

They did another top-speed shootout in Sept 84, which included the BB512 and the Countach, among others.

I love that picture of the BB! I would imagine you could contact R&T re: the picture. Might cost a bit, but I'm sure they could provide a print. Personally, I think it would be worth it.

That Boxer would sure look a lot better if it didn't have the hurking DOT add on front bumper!

    Michael,
The article is 8-pages long. If you PM me your address, I'll photocopy and mail it to you.

Man, look at the shelf on the front bumper of the boxer. If that was ****** Fritz job ( i thought he supplied the car for the original shootout with the Countach) he ought to be ashamed of himself.
MSDesign: You can get the reprints of all the articles by getting the compilation paperbacks. Not a great idea to be posting verbatim text of back issues.
I was also able to track down the rights owner of the famous Dean Batchelor pic of the Daytona speedo pegged. He sold me 4 large prints of pretty high quality, one of which will grace my garage once all the construction is finished.

I too have the PS of Bob's BB in the trees. I also have an article from an 80's R&T feature were they tested a 512BB with an aftermarket twin turbo. I remember the caption was the owner saying "I wanted something that if I got involved in a race with a porsche turbo it will be no race".

    Michael,

Good idea! There are quite a few Boxer owners on FChat, that would be great if you get a registry/thread started.
