    Hi,

I need to remove the dashboard at some stage to get it reupholstered as the previous owner left it in the sun too much and the leather has pulled back around the vents.

I'm planning to remove it myself, since it mostly looks to be just bolted in. Anyone have any experience or tips for doing this? I'm very much hoping you don't need to remove the windscreen/shield.

    thanks
    Paul

    I have a better solution ...

I have an upper dash that is extra to me. I can sell it to you, you can have it re-covered while still driving your car, and swap it out in one day when the new one is ready? Are you interested?

did mine a few years back. not a difficult job and doesn’t need the windscreen out.

gave a chance to get rid of all the useless immobilisers and alarms that had been fitted over the years as well!! and a radar jammer and various stereo mods!!!

    worth consideting:
    a) having the instrument binnacle recovered in leather as well as that is in plastic
    b) get the lower dash done from the same hide as they will not match otherwise
    c) consider getting part of the door cards/“arm rest” done as they flow from the dash and again the leather wont match otherwise.

I had all the above done from two hides we went and selected; left me with about 1/2 hide spare.

take the vents with you to show your trimmer how they sit in the dash. they are recessed fairly deeply into the dash and without seeing this your trimmer could cut the leather in the recess corners in such a way that they are visible afterwards.

also make sure your trimmer uses skived leather to the right thickness to cover the airbag. any decent trimmer will know this.

My 355 has the upper dash in black leather and the lower dash in tan leather. The tan leather was in perfect shape and did not need to be recovered, only the black upper dash needed the work done because the leather dried up and shrank. I am not sure the OP has one or two color upper and lower dash leather.

    Thanks all!

Thanks for the offer, but I'm in the UK so shipping would be a challenge, and I'm planning to do this over winter when the car will be off the road.
