Amen to that too. Apart from which a 25 aniv countach is a real car designed to look like a crappy kit, nothing close to the stark beauty of the lp400 or even a 5000s.

Sorry, i have not had time to read this thread in its entirety, but if i remember there is a wonderfully charismatic vintage British racing car from Frazier-Nash that was, as originally offered, labelled a Le Mans replica. If that car were duplicated today, it would then be a Frazier-Nash Le Mans Replica replica.

I'm going to get a 250GTO replica someday. The one that has been built from a 330, and you can't distinguish from an original. Problem is, I've heard that the really good ones cost about 250k, so I think I'll have to wait. That's the only way I'm getting near a 250, which I'm told are going for 8, 9 million.

    Replicas, recreations, whatever.

Some people go to extraordinary (and impressive) lengths for "originality" even though the premise is often flawed. This may upset some people but original doesn't often exist in cars (especially after 20+ years of use), most concours vehicles never looked like that when new so how can that standard be original? Remanufactured tools, lables, etc. are not original but if that is what people want to do then that is fine by me.

When all said and done they are just cars and can be used as their owners see fit, raced, crashed, put in a museum, converted, whatever.

    Live and let live.

I have had the same sledgehammer now for 20 years. In that time it has had six new handles and 2 new heads...

So you would be in favor of allowing "correct" recreations to run in historic events races and rallies?

All owners of a replica must be locked up in prison.

    It's really terrible.
I hope they all crash their replicas to wrecks.

besides that i really hate replicas and consider them as severe fraud, your answer is definitely the best!

When does it stop being a restoration and start being a recreation? (sledgehammer point). I am sure the organisers of the events you mention will have rules to differentiate anyway.

My point is nothing should prevent you doing whatever you want to the car(s). If someone makes a meticulous recreation of a particular vehicle so that for all reasonable purposes it is identical, it is still a fake/replica/recreation yet it can still be admired for what it is, a homage to the original. I think there is a quality line that gives people problems.

It does take a bit more effort for a start you have to design it. I should know, I am doing that now. :)
