Hi, i have a noise sounds like exhaust rattle of some sort at 3-4K rpm, exhaust mount ok, headers are ok mk2, but i notice the 2nd dary cats the heat shields are loose??? Is this normal? It really seems like some metallic resonance noise, any idea?

Its in for service anyway, just hoping to pin point it as ive had a look and mystery, it has only developed recently

Check exhaust tips too. OEM tend to rattle over time.

Engine cover release cables (inside the box) really liked to buzz at ~3k for me. Little bit of foam tape made a huge difference.

I have this too. I have capristo brackets, had cracked exhaust bracket and replaced it. Already had motor and transmission mounts replaced. Still have a high frequency rattle, more of a buzz, at 3-4k rpm on throttle

Mine did the same around 3k, and was exhaust tips. Tap on the back of them and you'll know. It either has a thud, or it'll be "ting" sound which equates to the rattle. A quick re-weld will fix it.

Ditto if the OP has a Capristo exhaust - check the brackets - it’s a known issue at R3-4 k revs. Mine wasn’t cracked but vibrated in that very narrow range - the securing bolts needed adjusting - all fine since

+1 .. My friends f430 does the same with that Capristo brackets . i spent hours on it trying to get it to stop with not having 100% success . best to use OEM bracket and leave the bottom bracket off

I just got my car back from shop where they had no luck isolating so I’ll give this a go. They checked to make sure brackets were installed correctly but don’t know if they tightened them up. For your car, did tightening or loosening fix it?

Fwiw, there are quite a few of us here that have removed those lower brackets completely. They seem to cause more headaches than they're worth, plus the top bow bracket is plenty sufficient to hold the exhaust in place.

Based on the pictures you sent you have the capristo bracket which , as stated by me and others , is very prone to the issue you are having. The reference that myself and others made to remove the lower bracket applies to the OEM original bow bracket assembly...so it doesn't apply to unless you have the original and out it back on

sorry about the confusion. Yes, I’m aware. If fiddling with the capristo brackets doesn’t work I will have to source the oem brackets. I may be the only person wanting/needing to buy them!

They tightened all the bolts and ensured there was equal torque on each. It seemed the issue on mine was that the unequal torque resulted in the “looser” bracket vibrating in that specific rev range. I talked with Scuderia Systems who supplied the exhaust and they were very knowledgable about it. Hope this helps

I should have also said that Scuderia recommend applying heat proof adhesive to the nuts once torqued to prevent vibration working them loose

FYI these are the cables and location that caused my rattle. You can reach in and tap them behind the mesh grill and see if they jingle for you.

So those cables rattle when released

    When locked its ok

Appears its from stock exhaust valves
    Not much to do

Also tighten airbox cover screws they seem to come loose

    Thank you all

    I just live with it

Oh, yeah, they don't usually rattle if they're open. So it could be something else.
