I went from a 360 to a new brand new 458 in 2015. My Daily is a 2017 Porsche 911S. I am now Ferrari-less. I am missing her dearly. Summer is around the corner and I'm ready to pull the trigger. Do I scoop up another 458 and save 100k or jump into a 488? Opinions needed. Thank you friends.

The 458 is a great car. I would go for the 488 though. I could not be happier with the 488, and many of my friends have the exact same feelings. You can’t go wrong, but might as well get something other than what you already had! Enjoy!

I did that last month- 2014 458 for 100K less than MSRP when new. Downside is minimal from here given exquisite care and keeping miles relatively low (it's a 5th car in the family and I have a classic 1969 camaro and my daily 2017 LS460)

    Well it’s a very good question !

    458 positives sides : the engine !!!
488 positive sides : brakes suspension stability

    The best choice ?
The mix of both : they call it Speciale

As there is a sizeable market for used 488s, a well specced and slightly used GTB can be had for a decent price. Unless you have an aversion to turbocharged engines (though, the 488 turbo is like no other), 488 all the way. Drive one.

I currently have a 458 spider which I love and I don't think I would get the 488... not to take anything away from it but not my cup of tea. I'm sure it's a great car and in some ways better. But the only cars I would substitute mucspider for at the current time are either the Speciale Aperta or the Pista. Pista probably being the first choise as I think it looks epic! But the prices of either of those cars are triple my spider so I will stay where I am st for now :)

Last NA V8 aside from the Speciale. Get the 458 - that's what I would do ;)

The S and 488 make for a killer stable ( I have these two) - each different enough yet satisfying in their own individual ways. The 488 never leaves you wanting - not sure I would be saying that with 458. The s is the invincible traffic dd scalpel, the 488 the enormously satisfying weekend warrior with that slightly extra pull over the S. That said if you feel $ are an issue then the 458 remains a great second option.

While I do prefer the 458 to the 488, since you already have a 458, I would get a 488.

Everyone has unique preferences. If you don't get the 488, then you might be missing out on something you enjoy more. If you get a 488 and decide you prefer the 458, then you can always switch again.

Depends how much money you have: $200K or less 458, $300K or more Speciale, in between and most expensive to own (due to future depreciation) the 488.

Best value right now: 458 Italia.

    Good luck!

While I enjoyed my 458, upgrading to the 488 is the best decision I made last year. While the 458 is 100K less, the 488 should be worth more as time progresses.

Bet the 488 will be worth LESS than 458 in long run. Why? Because the sound and 9K red line of the 458 will be more unique and valued as cars get ever faster. Performance always improves and is always available, while high revving NA engines will not......

    Best.

If you're buying with some kind of investment hope for the future, and to keep the car for years and years: 458.

If you feel the need for something new: 488.

All in all, I would go with a 458 (yes, again). Naturally aspirated engines are an endangered experience, as were the carburettors and manual gearboxes in the past. But I would test-drive the 488 (namely the Spider, my favorite version of the 488)

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Im pretty sure the 488's engine won engine of the year 15/16 - Id have to say the 458's positive side is the sound, the 488's is the engine, brakes, suspension, stability, aero!

I had this same conundrum last month. I sold my 458 about 6 months ago and was deciding between a 458 spider and a 488. I pulled the trigger on a 488 about 2 weeks ago. It's amazing in all ways previously mentioned but I still miss the sound of the 458. The looks of the 488 have grown on me so I'm happy with my decision. Not sure this helps!

I am still on the fence on whether to get a 488 or a 991.2 turbo s. I am on my 3rd Porsche, two of which are turbos. Since you already have a 991.2, I assume it just doesn't do what the Fcar does.

I had a 458 for a year. I then went to Porsche and had a 991.1 GT3 for a year. I missed the Fcar. I almost pulled the trigger on another 458 with a near perfect spec and 3k miles. I decided to order a new 2018 488GTB. The car is amazing and I am glad I stepped up to the 488GTB. Though the 458 is a great car the 488 is even better in almost every category in my opinion. The car is significantly faster feeling than the 458 was and the handling and stability on the 488 is remarkable. You can really feel the 100HP increase. If sound is a concern add a exhaust and the car sounds proper that is what I did with my valveless Novitec. You cant even tell the car is a turbo literally no lag. So my vote is 488 all day long :).

Owning a TTS and 488 I can say the "Fcar" is more of an emotional driving experience - truly an amazing car! If you are trying to decide between these two, you firstly need to prioritize both your needs and expectations as there are distinct trade - offs.
