Just taking a look at the Countach's available and the S1 is already discussed here with some negatives considering the supposed restore. Looking at the other two, both seem to have a story about them. Be interesting to see the results. https://rmsothebys.com/en/home/lots/pa23#?SortBy=Default&SearchTerm=countach&Category=All%20Categories&IncludeWithdrawnLots&Auction=PA23&OfferStatus=All%20Availability&AuctionYear=&Model=Model&Make=Make&FeaturedOnly=false&StillForSaleOnly=false&Collection=All%20Lots&TagLine=All%20Lots&WithoutReserveOnly=false&Day=All%20Days&TimedOnly=false&OneHubLinkOnly=false&AuctionedStatus=All%20Lots&page=1&pageSize=100&ToYear=NaN&FromYear=NaN R
The LP400 was sold almost exactly two years ago at the same auction for a quite hefty IMO 775k euros. It will be interesting to see what it brings, and whether the Polo Storico work would include reversing it back to its complete original RHD-guise. Though many might disagree in the current context of over-restoring to make a car look like it hasn't lived a life since being produced over 50 years ago, I always thought it was a shame that this particular car is no longer with its Mardikian modifications.
I am not filled with great expectation for this trio of Countachs, but would love to be proven wrong, for example, besides it's other shortcomings, the S1 is further revealed according to RM not to have any books or tools, and, in chatting to Valentino yesterday, he says to me that the auction company are putting out incorrect info (likely on behalf of the car's owner) because as he says, he never oversaw that restoration and in fact has never even seen 1121028. A shame his name is being used erroneously. I agree with you that today many cars are grossly over-restored featuring glaring errors. That said, I do not agree with you that the ex-Rod Stewart LP400 should be in Mardikian guise at all, the latter's amateurish modifications made a cartoon of the Countach, and the name Mardikian is hardly a glowing feature on any Countach's pedigree. IMO 1120262 should be returned to the original RHD LP400 that Rod Stewart received in Rosso with Tabacco, as seen here driven by him to soccer practice in Beverly Hills circa 1978. I think the white car was auctioned by them a couple of years ago, it didn't sell. That was just when I started looking for a car, I looked into buying it but then I was told the owner decided not to sell (presumably, for a while at least).
Estimates are up. LP400 950k - 1050k 400s 800k - 1000k 5000s 500k - 650k All in euros. About right for the 400. Seem optimistic for the 400s and 5000s? What do you think?
I don't know what to think in this changing market, but I do know these cars. The LP400 should be put back to RHD guise as Rod Stewart took delivery of it, this car has had so many incarnations, LP400 > LP400 Modified with roof wing > LP400 Mardikian chopped roof > LHD conversion > LP400 reconversion, all done not very well. The LP400S S1 is different from the LP400 and LP500S in that it is offered at No Reserve. I'm not sure how that will affect the price, but it's been given a refurbishment to original colors, unfortunately it has the high LP400S S3/LP500S suspension, a wrong rear panel with bull badge and wrong lenses, and no books or tools. The LP500S is a former California car I know, looks okay with attention required here & there.
Looks like they pulled the LP400 from the auction as not listed anymore. Auction live in approx 15 mins R
Countach junior went for 37,000 Euro's hammer price. 44,000 incl fees Countach 5000s went for 450,000 Euro's hammer.
That's a nice deal, 916,250 Eu (plus VAT on the BP) all-in, all results as expected, as I mentioned earlier, the market has cooled.
There was talk about the Countach`s but somehow nobody mentioned these 2 vehicles https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pa23/paris/lots/r0078-1969-lamborghini-miura-p400-s-by-bertone/1318751 https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pa23/paris/lots/r0059-1969-lamborghini-miura-s-jota-specification/1316743
I think in a hotter market this 1028 should have brought $1.25m plus, that said my comments about the market cooling refer to some of the other variants.
Very strong result for Miura #4280! The white 5000S had horrible panel fitment and even worse paint on it. Looks like somebody traces it with a sharpie, caulking was horrible.
Plus according to Auto Salon Singen where she was before once for sale it ran like an old dog. not understandable result for a car which needs that much TLC
Question: lp400s says 14th built. Did they get to 14 cars in 78? I have not checked in years but I thought it was less. I'm happy with that result in this market today.
On my factory-source database I count 16 LP400S S1 built in 1978 which includes Walter Wolf's prototype.
The non-original modifications cost 400k Eu and the car only brought 1m Eu, I would not call that a strong result for a P400S.
Because you would have estimated this example to be a million-euro car beforehand? Cost of modification is not really relevant, I can spend a whole lot less and dent its value a whole lot more. Besides, that 400k number has been floating around for almost a decade, back when it sold at for less than half of what it achieved this week...
I see what you're saying, that said in today's market any Miura P400S of any kind selling for just 1m Eu isn't a strong result IMO as underscored by the result brought by 4155.
Dear Mr. Sackey, do you know which Countach or Countach`s are build nearly to the 14 July 1978 ? That`s my birthday and would be nice to see some pictures of a Countach from that month Kind regards Zdenek
