Sorry for what is a very basic question. I've searched and have been unable to find a definitive answer. Is Apple Carplay standard on the Roma? Thanks in advance.
I don't have the Roma price list, but for the Portofino M it is a $4K option that includes Apple Carplay and Android Auto, I would expect it to be the same for the Roma: SMARTPHONE CONNECTION SMRT 4,219
not standard on the Roma. I didn't get it - would consider it if it was a daily driver, but I only use mine on weekends.
That's amazing considering it's free with most cars...I assume everything remains the same, it's just unlocked via software?
I doubt that. Smartphone integration definitely requires extra hardware else all old units with display might be able to work as long as USB connectivity is available.
What I mean was, the hardware used for non carplay and carplay must be nearly identical already...it's integrated into the dash, and as far as I can tell the car play and non car play look identical (unless I missed something). That's why I think you're paying 4 grand for a software unlock rather than a different system. Easy money for Ferrari. And don't get me wrong, I'd tick the box as well...
Front end, yes. Hardware behind it, perhaps not. If I recollect correctly, the exorbitant cost is because of two things, 1) Apple license cost being apportioned to a small # of vehicles, 2) actual hardware that needs to be added to the backend for processing CarPlay / Android Auto. And of course add to both these the Ferrari brand cost multiplier it adds up to the insane amount. I’ve opted for it too, albeit grudgingly

Yes, Apple Carplay will be standard on all Ferrari'smodels produced on or after 3/1/22. and the base MSRP of all models will increase slightly (less than what Apple Car Play costs to order previously) to incorporate the new standard option.

there is a carplay system coming out soon to add on for those without the carplay system that come with the ride.
That's a good move. CarPlay is essential in the Roma to avoid using the steering wheel buttons which are unsafe to operate.
