They should be sold and used for rebuilding Iraq. Can't remember what were in it exactly. But read there was around 5 or 6 Ferrari's
I didn't know Saddam liked Ferraris, Uday had the big collection. Uday killed Saddams favorite bodyguard for some reason concerning his mother in retaliation Saddam torched a bunch of Udays Ferraris and had him arrested and tortured for a month
That might very well be true, it should have been really impressive. Around the same status as the shiek with the Enzo, F40, F50, CLK-GTR, XJ220, 929 and so on. It was really big and expensive. To bad Saddam had no respect for nice cars. But hey, Uday killed someone he loved, so they had to go.
Here we go.... He even has a 993 behind the 928: http://www.phases-online.com/gallery/pics/iraq/cars3.JPG
The GI's wouldn't have to worry about radar traps at least......"come on Sarge.....give me the keys.....I promise not to exceed 150".......if these cars would start, they probably make some great R&R. And yes.....that mural in the palace is ominous...to say the least.
Did anyone get that maxim way back with Jamie Lynn Signler (sp? soprano's daughter) on the cover? Had a very interesting article about Uday. On the topic of trashed, burned, and blown up cars, (If I remember correctly) It said that Saddam threw this massive party for family and friends. Uday was not invited. He showed his displeasure by flying over to the party in a chopper and blowing up all the guests high priced cars. Temper Temper.
lol, if they were all iraqis i guess they couldn't really do much of anything but walk home. i wonder what saddam said after something like that?
Seeing the condition of that car makes one wonder about the condition of the highway system in that country (pre-war, of course). Are we talking dirt roads here? Or maybe autobahn types where you could open that baby up on a flat, paved desert stretch. Dunno. Plus one would think they'd have the cheapest gas prices in the world. Anyway I feel sorry for the car and hope it can find a nice, loving home somewhere in somebody's well-kept garage...
I am sure the roads were much nicer than they are now..tanks arent great for paved roads. I feel for the cars but mostly for the people of Iraq and their suffering. Saddam was a bad man but he is one person, the Iraqi people are paying the price. They should be auctioned off and the money should go to Iraq.
This is about - 1 man, and 1 man alone. Powerful, yes. Grumpy - yes nut case - yes wealthy - yes Having a bad day, torch his son's Ferraris to punish him (I remember when I was a kid, my mom used to hide my toys if I've been bad) - here we burn eachothers Ferraris to ashes(?!) Next day - back to grumpy Uncle Sam comes to the neighbourhood Saddam leaves a note (still grumpy) "out for lunch.......c-ya" Uncle Sam ALSO wanna have lunch with "Grumpy" - they follow. Grumpy running......."run Forest, run" December 2003: Found in a 6 feet deep hole in the ground with a Snickers bar in his hand and with a ZZTop beard, standing on a breifcase with 50.000 USD, shouting: "Dont shoot, I'm the president of Iraq" So the moral was: He was a wuzz! From things I have read, they would not have to look far. The keys were typically left in the ignition.
Apparently, when my mother was a little girl, she ripped up her brother's Mickey Mantle rookie card...!
Really sorry for bringing up an ancient thread, but does anyone have any of the photos that would have been available from the link above? Only it isn't working anymore. Thanks
It was probably a gift from our government, i.e. OUR tax dollars, back when he was our best buddy because he hated Iran.
Got me thinking...so to help you I did a google search and got these links http://www.ferrariownersclub.co.uk/happenings/2005/january/uday/text.asp http://img14.exs.cx/img14/4237/14958.jpg good luck
That first link is awful, half the parts have been taken, why would anyone do that out there, I couldn't exactly see a market for the bits in a country like that. Is the second link a Testarossa sand castle!
