Saw a Lincoln Blackwood today

They're nifty, but wouldn't dump $52k on one. They were only made for one year, I think. I may have gone two years on the line, tho. I do know, however, that it had VERY slow sales, and was thus defuncted (is that a new word I just made?)

 

I saw it at the Detroit Auto Show one year and I thought it was just awful.

To me, the Blackwood is a perfect example of Detroit's unfortunate habit of slapping a new grille and some extraneous doodads on the same old platform, giving it a new name, and unveiling it like it is some "new" vehicle.

BTW, those "pinstripes" that go around the bed: My God Man! What were they thinking?

I think I've only seen one or two on the road - goes to prove that you just can't polish a turd and expect it to sell.

The Blackwood is just a pimped out F150, which makes it even less original.

 

I never understood the Blackwood. Sales were so bad that the plug was pulled just months after its release. I don't remember the sales numbers but it was silly low. Ferrari might have sold more cars in this country that year. Oh and the pinstripes - if you look close that is supposed to be "wood" on the bed. Combine awkward styling, barely any payload capacity, two wheel drive only (for real), and not much towing capacity, and WAY over priced, and you have a recipie for a doomed model right from the get-go. That thing never should have made it to production.
