As much as I like Rubens it was time to move on and give way to younger guys. I'm not too excited about Senna but cash is king
I agree. It was time for Rubens to go. I like Senna, I like his attitude. He did put in some good drives last season so I think he is worthy of the seat. I hope to see him grow and mature as a driver. Mark
Rubens time was up a couple of years ago. Brawn gave him a an extension.... he needs to go do Le Mans or DTM or NASCAR or Indy.
second man at Williams is Pastor Maldonado (Venezuela) so Adrian Sutil (who was replaced by Nico Huelkenberg at Force India) possibly without cockpit 2012 ! ?
Looks likely. The only remaining open seat is the second HRT and I suspect they want/need a big $ pay driver in that. A shame for the guy - I like him. Also a little sad that Rubens is just sort of gone Cheers, Ian
Hoping we'll see Rubens race in the US in some fashion this year. I believe he has previously expressed interest in doing the Indy 500....
Yep - The incident in the club in China. From Autosport; Cheers, Ian http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/96997
Not according to Senna: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/97058 My favourite part was: "...and they did not even talk about the sponsorship at the start...." So eventually someone said: "So how much money can you bring with you?" Followed by: Gillan (Williams chief operations engineer Mark Gillan), confirmed that Adrian Sutil had been on the shortlist of candidates for the drive, but in the end it was decided not to pursue a tie-up with him. "I don't want to specifically talk about individual drivers, but Adrian was in our plans. However, based on everything that was laid out, Bruno for me and the team was the best way forward." So reading between the lines: "We really wanted Adrian sutil but he couldn't bring any money with him and he might be in prison for most the season anyway!"
I didn't rate him highly in that thread either! (Now watch him make Me eat humble pie this season! [or will he?])
I'm definitely in the minority here but I think he has at least some talent. Ayrton Senna-like? No, but who does?
He won't do time. Maximum sentence is one year on probation. As for Senna: Too bad this useless driver gets the seat. The Incredible Hulk would have been more deserving.
Pretty much sums up how bad Williams condition is, financially. It's rumoured that Senna brought in 20 mil Euros in sponsors. He doesn't deserve an F1 seat at the moment, IMO. Sutil is way ahead of him, and so is Rubens. Speaking of Rubens, he should have just shut it and remained at Ferrari. Definitely a double world champion by now. What a shame.
Unfortunately $ talks in F1, it has for decades now. I would rather have Williams around with a few pay drivers than not have them at all. The only way Williams can even have a remote chance of returning to glory is if they are on the grid.....Many of us would be highly disappointed to see such a historic team go by the wayside.
Well, i think it was Frank's choice anyways. If only he agreed to really 'partner' BMW, who knows. Perhaps they could have been world champions again.
Well, you and i both think of it. I'm sure he does. And regrets it. 2007 and 2008 easily would have seen him a champion.
I wonder at what point Rubens knew this was happening and that Brazil this year really was his final race....... almost sad. then again, he was in F1 an absolutely massive amount of time which is definitely not sad
With no money Rubens did not stand a chance. He knew that going into Brazil last year. B Senna has some heavy hitters backing him with Embratel (Carlos Slim) and OGX (Eike Batista). With this link Slim Jr. will sponsoring Sauber and Williams, extending his clout in F1. Let's hope that his dad doesn't pull the plug on his expensive hobby any time soon.
