348 's with a wheel upgrade and a little turn down on the suspension look sinister , in a very good way !

I really appreciate the offer. I'm down in the Portland area. Are there any upcoming ferrari meets that I could attend?

Did you post this same question in the TR section? If you did the response might be skewed different. If you didnt post it over there I think you subconsciously already know which car you want. :)

I think the TR guys, if they were being honest, would echo what we say here. They would rely on the fact that the TR values are increasing faster than 348 values and that the car is an autobahn beast on the highway, not that you could criuse anywhere at 150 mph in the USA.

This is a good suggestion and I would follow through with it.

To be honest with you, this thread was first posted in the general chat section, thinking that I would get input from all from owners of all types, but the moderators moved it within 10 mins, presumably because of the title.

    I own a 512 TR (and I used to own a 360 Spider).

As a first Ferrari, on a budget, I would recommend a 348, although that might depend on your intended driving uses.

A Testarossa is NOT a sports car ; it's a wonderfully engaging Grand Tourer, great for long distance drives. It is too bulky and heavy and long-geared and soft to be a sports car. But as a sporting Grand Tourer, it's the most engaging and thrilling ride.

A Testa is also more challenging from a maintenance perspective, and is more likely to land you with a (very) big bill than a 348.

If you're looking for an accessible, reasonable, thrilling Ferrari sports car, go for a 348.

    Enjoy.

(PS: I'm looking to add a 348 ts to my 512 TR, as they are very complimentary)

My childhood dream car was the 512TR, with the F355 a close second.

I eventually learned that TRs are not raw sports cars. They are grand tourers...very grand. Great investment (especially the 512TRs at the time), but not really my true interest.

Then again, 512TRs ballooned way out of my budget last year. So I ended up with an F355; maybe this sports car thing is just my excuse!

But it really does depend what you want in your Ferrari. Beautiful and nimble sports car, definitely 348. An incredible styling statement and bahnstormer, TR is the one.

With all season tires you can drive the car year round. My Mondial handles beautifully in rain and snow. Great all season cars.

Drive both (and the TR as well) and see which calls to you. I loved the power of the 355, but something about the raw steering of the 348 infected me.

Try them all... there is huge satisfaction to be had from just the search.

Late 348's are great cars. The TR would be a great car also. Buy the best you can afford, but consider you can move up next round! 348's rule

"Get what you want" is the answer to all these questions. The 348 "may" look better, and the 355 "may" be better, but with your budget, the 348 FTW (for the win). The financial pitfalls for the other cars could "take the fun out of it". That does not guarantee that you can't fall through the ice if you're unlucky with a 348 either.

Hi Daren, I probably live about an hour south of you in the Salem area. I have a black 1991 348 TS and a hand full of Ducatis as well plus some other bikes. Seems like we got some similar interests. If you want to check out the car to help your decision or talk cars and bikes, let me know. I'm also in the PDX area from time to time visiting friends. I looked for a long time, did a lot of research on different cars, and decided on the 348 and totally happy with my decision. The biggest problem with the 348 is miles! That is, its so damn fun to drive I'm racking up way more miles on the car much faster than I ever anticipated. It's a car I WANT to drive everyday!
