Both catalytic converters have been removed from my 99 456M GTA; they are not being replaced. I am attempting to eliminate the amber flashing "Slow Down" light. My research tells me that the 02 sensors are sending misinformation to the ECUs causing the SDL warning. Before replacing the sensors, can I install 02 sensor spacers (Spark Plug Non-Foulers) and using the old 02 sensors see if the SDL goes off? My research says the sensor spacers are needed when the cats are missing; is this true? Are special spacers necessary for Bosch or NTK sensors or will generic brands at AutoZone work? To complicate the matter, is there room for the spacers with the rear 02 sensors? How difficult a job is it to access the rear 02 sensors? Thanks for the help.

The sensors are all readily accessible, but no clue how to fool the ecu.

I would drop Gothspeed a message and see what he says. I believe your thermocouplers have their own ECU and that the SDL circuit is separate from the engine ECU.

I think the temp sensors are giving you that signal, not the lambda sensors. I put catalyzers on my 456M and the light disappeared. The car ran much better with the caralyzers and used less fuel too. No need to run without cats.

When I've removed cats before (albeit not Ferrari's) I normally put an extension on the lambda fitting. This moves the Lambda out of the direct travel of exhaust gasses and they read less and more in line with the reading they should get when cats are still fitted.
