    Not really. Watching the video it was obvious the 'failure' was not a serious issue, which Musk confirms.

    Yup, he was predicting only a one in three odds of succeeding on the first try. Same thing happened with quite a few of his Falcon first stage recoveries. Fully reusable spacelift actually will offer orders of magnitude savings in spacelift costs. USAF and NASA have worked on RLVs and RLV technology for decades, but nobody was willing to pony up enough money to make them a reality. STS had a few warts after the initial fully reusable design cost too much to build.
