    hello all,

    interested in this car and had engine checked...can i please get some input on these results as to excellent-good-ok??:

    1979 308GTS...38,000 miles

    leakdown...8% 8% 9% 10% 9% 8% 8%10%

    compression...170 165 170 165 165 160 165

    Appear reasonable if a bit higher leakdown/lower compression than mine. Some variation test to test caused by operator variances, engine temp, no of times it is spun etc. Net, net, I think the results are reasonable. I've been told anything over 12% on leakdown and +/- 10 psi on compression is a bit of a worry. Your results are within these tolerances.

    Leakdown and compression numbers by themselves are not terribly useful, as there are a number of factors that can affect the resulting numbers. What is truly important is are the numbers consistent and equal across the range - which they are. That is good.
