No doubt about it. The 917 is one of my favorites of all time. The 917-30 was a monster. I remember seeing one at Road Atlanta in Brumos livery, it was just amazing to see and hear.

If you haven't already read "A French Kiss With Death" about the making of the movie LeMans and the 917's.
The first ones had a tire pressure gauge plumbed into the chassis tubes.
They'd pump in air. If the gauge dropped it meant the chassis welds were letting go and you'd better come in.
    They are truely wonderfull.
    Best
    Ps.
The 67 rossa corsa lookes different than the new stuff. In the sunlight it looks poured on.

I love the 917's.Although I didn't exist when they raced. They are one of the best looking race cars ever produced.I'd love to have one of those. Not to mention the wonderful sound they make.

Great book. Always liked the tube trick, they used N2 in 'em. Clever.
Real Rosso is dark, like the P car. Our 166 (0008) was even darker, more like venous blood, P car like arterial blood. Both alive :)

Glad P car had safe journey.

WOW !!! What a great site.

Thanks for posting the link.....I am a long time Porsche fan and just love the 917. I actually saw their first overall 1970 LeMans victory as an 11 year old kid.

What are these worth nowadays anyways ??? 1-2-3 Million ? I saw the car that was for sale from Vasek Polak's collection....I think Symbolic had it a while back.....

    Jim...do you know ?

We'll soon know as the Sebring car is going up at Christies in Europe. The only reason that I haven't gone after one is that unlike mine it wouldn't be US street legal.

Definately not prettier than Lambos, but definately faster. I know a guy who is making a replica street 962 Porsche from Gunnar racing using real parts. It will be about 1,000hp and weigh 2000pds.

    Allan....

962's are cheap...are they not ??? 2-400K USD ??? Why not buy the real thing was my first instinct.

With any of these cars it's about history. History is what gives them real value.

Can you repost that site it's pretty cool. The street version went 0-60 in 2.9sec and topped out at 250+. Street legal in Germany Daur 962.

    Jim....

I agree....but there are probably a few around on the cheap side that might be had for the approximate cost of creating one...that's where I was coming from.

    Here's the Dauer site.

The beauty is the history, engineering, and unassailable TRACK record. Kind of like Ferrari's. And Ford's. And even Lotus, despite making crap street cars ( I know, I had one, Emma Peel notwithstanding).

Replica of a Lobb shoe, Breguet complication, or whatever may be technically perfect, but it ain't the spiritual descendant.
