Well it an alternative I dont think we can just reject. Has anyone found a generic supplier to see what they can be had for? Google just kind of ignores the brand. Be interesting to cut one open. Its not like there have been problems on the TRs like the other cars, its just the absurd price. No matter what they say its still just a $20 oil filter. After Steves comments I was getting ready to try a 599 oil filter but even those are pretty expensive.
The 599 is a Purflux LS 928A. Cross references to Hifi SO 11020 which appears to be some agricultural (surprise) transmission filter, for like 10 bucks. Got a link to Steve's comments?
It was a prior thread on TR oil filters. I guess he measured one and its the same thread and gasket size. Any oil flow good enough for a 599 has to be good enough for a TR.
This filter is for the 599 and FF but the Purflux part number is not visible: https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/part/ferrari/218429 This one's for the FF and Purflux LS 928A is visible. But is that the correct filter? https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/part/ferrari/280459?id=216855 Purflux LS 928A cross references to: MAHLE OC 50 SF SP 4129 Hifi SO 11020 Baldwin BT292 cross references to Mahle OC 50. In Steve's thread Rpissm also mentions the Purflux LS928 so that seems to be the correct one, so the cross refs above are correct.
Rpissm also mentions the PURFLUX LS1052: "Here's the LS1052 which is used on Jags, Rolls Royces, Astons, etc, and is only 10 euros!" Like the Baldwin BT292 it also cross references to the Mahle OC 50 - https://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com/convert/MAHLE/OC50 And a few hundred cross references for the BT292: https://www.oilfilter-crossreference.com/convert/BALDWIN/BT292
If the Purflux LS1052 is a true match cross reference replacement for a Testarossa that is great news, as this also cross references to a Bosch 0451103278 and UFI 23.544.00. More choice and trusted brands, this is also used on a BENTLEY MULSANNE 3Y 6.8…. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It doesn't cross reference to the TR directly. The Purflux LS 928A is the filter Purflux makes for the 599 and FF (F part #218429). In his post Steve argued that it should be ok for the TR, and someone had bought a TR with that filter already installed. The Purflux LS 928A cross references to the Mahle OC50 which cross references to the Purflux LS1052 and consequently to the ones you mention.
A factor not being mentioned that requires consideration is rated burst strength. Ferrari motors can produce higher pressure than most when cold and the filter has to be rated for it. Anything made by Mahle I would trust. It is an outstanding company. Also, I have little faith in UFI and have only stuck with them because if I buy through the Ferrari supply chain it carry's a good warranty. A TR client lost an engine as a direct result of a failure due to poor QA of an UFI filter and Ferrari did a complete overhaul on a 20+ year old engine, no questions asked.
Tangential to that. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/attachments/dsc00143-3-jpg.118190/ https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/testarossa-camshaft-seized.44299/
Bleed clutch. Pump pedal quickly about 50 times then rebleed. Clutch line goes up and down and forcing air out can be a little difficult. It can get trapped in the high spots. Pumping pedal quickly can get it untrapped.
