What also impresses me is how civil the 296 is. A grandma could drive it. Have nana do long distance in a GT2/GT3 911 - good lord, that's elder abuse.
These are just singular data points. Differences are so close that driver skill, tires, weather, and car condition/setup could all change rankings. Also, different cars do worse/better on various tracks. The Ring is the 'standard' the public has decided to use as a measuring stick. Ring times should never be a definitive 'be all end all' on performance. The thing I take away is the 296 is fast, and can still can be driven without breaking my back.
Been a while since the whole controversy that I forgot about it. I remember Robert Mitchell talking about it too.
I’m no racer, but it seemed like in the first third of that lap there were spots were he could eek out another fraction of a second. That last bit he was totally flying though. Makes me giddy.
Not surprising.. a few mags got AF SF90 Coupe at 0-200km/h at 6.2 seconds, that is blindingly quick and a standout figure to me on the AF SF90.. not important but an impressive benchmark nonetheless!
the 488 pista was a full 21 seconds faster than the 488 round the ring the 488 was a full 18 seconds faster than the 458 the 296 being just 2 seconds quicker than the pista isn't that impressive I feel I am optimistic that the sf90 vs will move things on though!
This mag was sport auto. The Euro mags are so much more comprehensive in their testing than American mags anymore. 0-100 in 2.7 0-160 in 4.8 (nuts) 0-200 in 6.9 0-300 in 18.5. there were carbon wheels on the car and the car seemed quite light at less than 1600 kg. I don’t think the Euro mags adjust for rollout so there must have serious heat in those cup 2 Rs to get off the line like that.
We’re deep into diminishing returns now for performance cars. Hard to move the game drastically forward.
to some extent yep but the AMG One is 28 seconds faster than the 296 so there's still scope! the sf90 vs will have the same or slightly more power than the One, it'll be interesting to see how it compares! I also believe the Valk would lap in the region of the 6:20's if anyone is ever brave enough to try
Where are you getting this info from? Couldn’t find any article. Also I’ve been running 4.5s 100-200 reliably but never got 4.2s.
Yes euro mag like sport auto/AMS or Sportcars dont do rollout. It is from a standstill. They use a new runway to mesure the times, wich is stickier then the old on. 0-100time very strong, 100-200kmh 4,2 exactly were he shoud be i guess 200-300kmh with 11.6 sec is ok but could be better in my point of view, if you look at the 765lt for example. But in the other hand i dont know the temp of that day, nore the state of charge of the batterie, but performing that strong on 0-200kmh, the horeses must be there..
but the One did a lot of ring testing, and has a massive ajustable aero… 337kmh on Dörtingerstright needs drag reduction. Maybe the sf90 vs can go into the 6:4xxx at is best.. I am just guessing
During the test 200-300 kmh, it was 10.6 seconds. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The 458/488 gtb difference is explained by the significant power advantage of the 488, while I guess the 488 gtb was not equiped with the same tyres as the Pista - which makes a huge difference. On the other hand the Pista and 296 ran on similar tyres; I also suspect it becomes more difficult for a driver to extract the best of a car as it becomes faster, specially on a track as long as the Nordschleife.
Sportauto is messuring the acceleration test not on the Nordschleife but seperatly on an airfield. Nordschleife, if you have been there isnt stright, has lots uf donw and uphil.
