Just bought a Roma from out of state and it should arrive in Austin next week. I need to get the car inspected to be able to register it in Texas. Is the dealership the best place? Or is there a trusted place that could get it done quicker?
The Austin dealer doesn’t actually do state inspections but there is a nearby place they can take it to.
There is a Texaco down the street from me in Tarrytown that does inspections. Is there a reason for me to worry about going there?
I'd take it anywhere honestly. In some cases they won't even drive it. I take it to this hole in the wall shop near our house. I don't remember the guy ever driving it. He just has me pull it into the bay and checks everything else out including emissions.
Yeah there's a little quick lube type place near the house that I've been taking other cars (and my wife's moto) to for years. They just drive it from a parking spot to the bay where they plug in the OBD-II, check the lights, and put it back. Sometimes they'll ask how to do things since the turn signal and horn buttons are unusual.
Congrats! You'll have to post some photos. We have an active Ferrari Club community in Austin. There are at least 2 events each month. You are welcome to check it out.
I believe a new car dealership in Texas has to have an inspection station. They may elect to not do inspections for anything other then new.
When I need an inspection on my ‘15 458 Italia, I go to my local Mercedes-Benz dealer. They let me drive it back to the inspection area, right up to the mechanics stall. He puts the code reader on it and finishes the inspection and I pay and leave. Less than 10 minutes in total, once he has it at his inspection station… I get strange looks driving a Ferrari through a MB repair bay (they have 8 or 10 mechanics working), but it gets done and it’s super fast. My Ferrari dealer is a few hundred miles away, so I use the MB dealer (5 miles away) where we service our SonderKlasse Benz for state inspections. Easy peasy! Cheers!
Probably shouldn't repeat this as it's a requirement the car be driven by the inspector to do the measured brake test. Not that every inspector does it but it's required.
I can’t PM but would like to get on the newsletter for events. Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
What guy working at a corner gas station isn’t going to drive a Ferrari? My exotics get driven (I’m in Houston). Then you have the Discount Tire guys, They want to road test a car after new tires to make sure the Johnson Rod is set right.....yeah sure
