Before removing my wheel bearings (see my other thread) I had to remove the spindle nut. The nut ate up the threads on the spindle. It appears that perhaps the the thrust washer was twisted such that the tongue on the inside of the washer was not in the groove of the spindle. When I removed the nut (with great difficulty) the washer interior tongue was broken and the thread of the spindle were worn down. Can I run a die over the spindle and restore the threads? Will this be safe? What is the thread size?

    Grazie,

    Mark

Yes but a die is easier and does a better job. A thread file is meant for application where for some reason a die cannot be used.
