Interesting that this pops up so much later... The edge is covered by the L-shape lip that Jano put in place. From some angles you can see a bit of the rubber, but it looks good and it looks stock. If I can find my camera I'll take some closeups
I really like the look of the de-louvred windows, but in my case the OEM louvres are some kind of a plastic material. Over the years the plastic assembly has sort of bowed a bit in the middle, and I am concerned that if one were to cut out the middle louvres, the result would only aggrevate the bowing. I understand that, for the earlier cars, the louvres were made from some sort of metal in lieu of plastic. If so, is it necessary to obtain an old set of these metal louvres to use as raw material in order to do this work? If not, then how do you keep the 'plastic' from not having a large gap to the window? And, why doesn't some aftermarket vendor gear up and make a bolt-on replacement "open window" louvre pair? The, we all could do this swap without the concern of cutting up our OEM ones! Thanks and Cheers - DM
Tillman, I love it. In fact, if you were to paint the bumpers black, it would almost look as good as a 308 GTB! BTW, next update should be that long-promised trailer hitch! Birdman
Don't think I haven't been designing it. I think a receiver with a kinda elongated U will work and not be noticeable when taken out
The same guy that modded Tillmans louvers also did mine. Mine does NOT have the L bracket underneath, he simply cut out the louvers we didn't want, sanded and painted. Although mine is not nearly as 'substantial' as Tillmans, it's held up fine. I've been driving with them in the new format for over 2 years with no trouble. Will try to get a close up picture when I can. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I liked what Tillman did so I did mine too. Plastic louvers cut out with no brackets. Painted with a rattlecan. Been about two years, no issues. Image Unavailable, Please Login
T Rutlands has some for those wanting to do this mod. I bought a set today (want to keep my originals - original). Any tips on cutting out the louvers? I imagine they sand flush, once out? Chris
Go slow. I used a hand saw. Try to cut as smooth as possible to reduce sanding required. The plastic gums up sandpaper quickly.
Are the louvers for a 308 the same as a 328? T Rutlands sent me a set & they are marked for a 1979 308.... If they the same what do you do with the first large louver that looks like its part of the frame? My car is a 86 328. Chris
Those ARE 308 louvers on my car. The guy who did my work is on Fchat, his user account is http://ferrarichat.com/forum/member.php?u=721 You should ask him how he did it.
