I used the search forum, and wasn't able to find anything; but for those who have stored their Ferrari in a storage unit; were you comfortable with a 10x20 (for an F430)? I'm assuming that if I can trailer it in my 8.5x20 enclosed trailer it should work, but not sure about maneuvering it in, and how much the roll up doors will intrude.

We're getting close to moving to our next project, so I thought it would be a good time to take it with us on our trip to Austin for the holiday, and leave it for the 2-3 months before we get settled at the next location (I'd also get more use of it while we're there!). It'll save me a trip later, and I'm assuming the driving days are coming to and end in Kentucky. I've heard it snows and ice's around here.

Check into the storage unit rules. Some places require you to have an empty gas tank and the battery disconnected.

I have stored an F430, 458, and 599 in 10x20 storage units with no problem. However, it is tight to get out/in of the car since the doors cannot swing that wide. Note that the entrance of a 10x20 unit is not truly 10' as you mentioned due to the roller doors. It's more like 8.5'

One of the storage centers required proof of registration and insurance to store the cars, another facility required nothing. I was able to drive the cars in and out weekly. Hopefully you have electrical in the unit to plug in a tender. One of the units I had did not have an outlet, so I used an adapter to turn a light socket into an outlet.

Awesome! I was wondering about the power source! I was assuming I'd just have to unplug the battery every time, but if I can draw power from the light socket, that'd be great.

I store mine in a 10x20. No issues. Most places require proof of insurance, etc if you are storing a car. Mine asked for them I never provided it and there's never been an issue. Most units (perhaps nearly all) will not have a power source (they do not want people leaving things on or plugging in a microwave and living out of the unit). I have two Ferraris and I swap them out weekly so I am always running them so not concerned about a battery. I did have one die on my and I could not reach with jumper cables and a portable charger didn't work and the tender didn't work (ran an extension cord out the unit to a shared outlet with a timer - sat there and turned the timer every 60 min what a pain) so I replaced the battery (it had a blown cell should have thought of this first).

Also, depending how much you are there swapping out cars, you will meet a lot of interesting people.

Oh completely agree with you there! I try not to draw too much attention, but when you fire up the engine on a cold start...

One other point for the OP, I kept my cars covered when in the units. They do get dusty. Also, I never had a problem but heard that rodents could be an issue.

I store all my cars (355 / 458 / 911 GT3 / Hellcat) in Storage Units at Public Storage. No issues - have to be a bit careful maneuvering as the spaces between the unit rows are a bit tight but never an issue as long as I am careful. My units have no power which has always been a bit annoying but I believe 430's have the same battery disconnect as 355s/360s/TRs etc. so use that and you should be fine - when it is out put a Tender on it if you can and keep the battery topped off. As other have posted PS requires proof of insurance and legal ownership - My unit is accessible from 6am to 9pm 7 days a week. Has worked out well for many years.

    Cheers :)

Great points - and I did have some evidence of mice in the front bonnet of my 355 at one point - some DCon packets around the units and no further issues.

I don't mess around with the rodent issue. Ever since my buddy had his wires chewed up on his 458, I keep mine completely zipped up. More-so because I'm constantly moving locations and renting space in rural areas. Now I keep mine in a CarJacket when it's not being driven.

Oh one more thing, don't be surprised after month 3 when they jack up your rent. I had my cars at Public Storage and they tried to increase the monthly rate by 30%. I negotiated and got it down... only to have them increase it after 6 months. Went to US Storage afterwards and they did the same thing, but not as steep.

I know, that’s pretty annoying. I’ve had mine go up at about the 6 month mark. Luckily, with the car, it’s easy to move versus having to move a whole bunch of “stuff”.
