Anyone have any recommendations for a place to get a PPI done for a car in the Raleigh area? I believe the nearest dealer is probably Foreign Cars Italia in Greensboro. Thanks!

Let me be the first of 15 guys to recommend Apex Vintage near RDU. Contact Bob Breed. Terry Meeler is the gentleman to do your PPI. email: [email protected] Local phone is 781-1871.

I will be #2 here. Terry is the man if the car is in the Raleigh area. IF it is a local car Terry may already be familiar with it. Tell him Chip, Keith, and all the guys here sent you to him.

If you can get it there (near FcI) I give Tom Jones at Sport Auto my highest rating. As I have said before, he and Steve Barney are the only ones I would buy a Fcar from sight unseen.

Agree; Tom and Steve are the best (they found my Blue Sera 308!) I have found Terry to be right up there with those two, so you have two great choices within 75 miles. What sort of Fcar are we looking at?

Add me to the Apex and Sport Auto bandwagon. Apex just converted my 308 QV to a 308 powered by a 328 motor. Done to a very high standard, runs great.

I have used Apex Vintage to do a number of items on my 360. I have been a customer with them for years. I've even had them do some custom work for me. Specific to their Ferrari work, Terry is very meticulous and is very good about explaining what he has found once you get him talking. Highly recommended.

    Thanks for all the recommendations!

Which I *love*, by the way (I've seen a pic of it in another thread).

I'm looking at a 1985 Euro 308 QV that was posted over in the 308/328/Mondial section:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=288310

I've corresponded with the owner a bit and made plans to go see it in person next week. Depending on how things look in person, I wanted to make sure I was ready to line up a PPI.

Does anyone here know this car? It's been getting all its service at Euroclassics in Durham. There's a possibility it was at the C&C last Saturday (or at least from the pics posted here, there appeared to be a black on tan 308 there next to the countachs ... two cars away from a blue 308 that could be your car, Chip (I'm totally guessing ;-)).

Terry, Bob, and Cecil are the best - you will do no better than to take it to Apex Vintage.

The shop is in Durham, but I believe the car is living in downtown Raleigh. The current owner claims it has been serviced by that same shop since it was imported in 1985 by the first owner (a friend of his, who sold him the car almost 10 years ago). I have the name of the mechanic there who did the overhaul and will give him a call soon to see what he might be able to tell me.

If anyone has seen it firsthand, I'd love to hear about it, whether opinions are positive or negative.

He, the current owner, then should have EXTENSIVE records on the car. Ask for them.

I had scheduled to go see this car in person tomorrow (while everyone's at VIR?). I also called Apex Vintage to see about a PPI at some point after that. Terry sounded like a great guy on the phone. However, it looks like the car now has a minor brake problem and is back in to its mechanic for repairs--a leaking caliper, I think. The owner wants to have all four rebuilt/replaced before anyone drives it. I'll wait until it is fixed before I go see/drive it (hopefully soon!).

I also talked to the mechanic who's been working on the car--yes, the same guy has been doing its service since '85 and knew both the first owner and the current owner. He was more than happy to tell me about the car's history, and he also pulled the paperwork to go through everything that was done in its last major service, compression test results, etc. He also told me his opinions about what the car's weaknesses were and its current mechanical condition. Everything sounded pretty good.

BTW........the Black on tan Euro QV at the last Briair Creek C&C is not the same one that's for sale.

If you have a PPI done by Terry, I would expect to hear something along the lines of......' it's not in prefect shape, but it's in a hellava better condition than the other black and tan we've worked on.'

That's meant to be a poke at me not Terry.

Yes, the one I'm investigating is the one that was posted on the local Raleigh craigslist a while back. There's a link earlier in this thread to another discussion of that car and the craigslist ad in the 308/328/Mondial section. It is an '85 Euro 308 gts QV, black on cream (the craigslist ad said tan, though), approx 30K mi. I call dibs! ;-)

Actually, I'm pretty excited to go see it at this point ...
