While I have been living in Sydney now for over 6 years I still seem to be having problems finding where the serious restoration, panel beating or paint work stuff/suppliers can be found.

After a reasonably long search I think I have found a paint supplier, but I have yet to find anywhere that can sell me panel beating tools. I have managed to buy a okay hammer from one of those massive hardware stores ... but it really is not a panel beaters hammer.

Naturally what I am after are the panel beating dollies (sp?) to help me stretch and shrink metal ... I used to have a cheap set in New Zealand but I think my father either threw it away or has kept it, because they did not come over with the car ... (note: it took me a few years to get the car shipped over to Sydney and thus the restoration was on hold for most of those 6 years ...)

I also would like to find a place that sells lead as I would like to try lead loading the 1750 (Alfa) instead of filler ... not much should be required anyway and after all this work I think worth the extra effort.

Lasty I would like to find a company that sells all the little plastic clips and fittings that proliferate through a car. There is a fantastic company that specialises in this stuff in Auckland, New Zealand ... but heh this is Sydney and I am sure Aussie restorers have access to the same level of support ... ? ... but currently I would have to say NOT.

Even buying panel steel has been a pain and ended up requiring a 1 hour drive to a steel merchant and then a 1 hour drive home again :(, just for 3 small pieces of panel steel.

Now I realise that I just need to break into the right circles and I am sure these companies are all out there ... I just cannot find them, and I had this well sorted in New Zealand, largely thanks to working for an engineering company for years, and my fathers automotive repair business.

Any help would be seriously appreciated.
Pete's looking for automotive companies ...

For others V.G. Auto Paints also sell Lead Wiping sticks and the Tinning stuff used for this process.

Sounds like I have found the one stop shop :D

    Pete's happy

Also, seeing as how you're restoring an ALFA you might want to contact Ron Hickman who lives in Penrith.

Ron and Maisy restored my 2300S and he is a retired rocket engineer (true!!) and has restored and rebuilt more cars than you or I could imagine restoring.

If you do call him (and I strongly suggest you do) say hello for me as I haven't seen him in nearly 10 years but there are many people in the Italian restoraion business that do.
