What do you think of this? Value? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1959-ferrari-250-gt-berlinetta-tour-de-france-recreation/
I really don't get this, do people who bid on these think they are getting a TDF? What's also crazy is they say " invoices by Patrick Ottis !!!!! " so what? i have a lot of respect for Patrick and his staff but this doesn't mean a thing.
Notice how far you have to read before you get to "re-creation." I'm surprised BaT hasn't been more overt.
Why "surprised" ??? Last I checked, BaT was in used car sales (auction) business. Only difference is they accommodate/provide for peanut gallery commentary, kind of like most online forums, to keep people entertained(?) and preoccupied.
Historically, they hedge in their descriptions for legal reasons. This car was a fakey do from the jump. You would think they would make more obvious that the car is not a Ferrari. Maybe they are changing their descriptions. Frankly, I find BaT a lot more entertaining that you.
This is a complete waste of money i see comments in there from well known people who do nothing but sell used cars even the name of the deaLers appears to be designed to be deceptive i hope a real buyer does not get stuck with this at the current price…
Yeah, maybe....... You're thinking of the old, privately owned BaT, not the current, corporate-owned entity.....
Exactly, complete waste of money. For this kind of money one can get a nice driver or better GTC or a Daytona that is far more enjoyable to drive and keep their values.
I think Bat has done there job it is clear from the BAT write up that it is a fake car…however its the comments that are totally misleading i really have never seen so many user names go through so much trouble to deceive the bidders….wonder who the owner is ?
The usual moronic commentary by BaT members who've never placed a bid on anything. Helluva driving video though.
The auction listing it literally "Tour de France–Style 1959 Ferrari 250 GT Coupe" and the first line is "This 1959 Ferrari 250 GT was manufactured in October 1959 as a Pinin Farina–bodied coupe"--- Seems extremely direct as to what this is, and what it started it's life as.
Oh, I don't know; the "value" question is the same as any other rebody/replica on a PFC or GTE donor. If the rebuild really is to a TdF spec, and one is just curious to see what it is like to drive a TdF, then the car has appeal. Real TdFs go for a lot, and to me, the TdF would be a more interesting car to experience than say a Lusso... Of course, if the car is still at a PFC spec, then it seems less interesting, though at least the alloy panels might be a notable deviation. As 375+ noted, the video does give the impression that it is reasonably sorted (aside from some stumbling at lower revs). All that said, yeah, $700k+ does feel like a lot, though it would likely cost you more than that to replicate it (on the assumption that one really wanted something like that).
I suspect there were no buyers on this car hope its ok to say that but been around a lot of auctions and i just do not believe a real seller would turn down real 850k for this car?
I think it's beautiful. Looks prettier than a PF coupe. But yeah $850k is nuts for a replica even with a real ferrari chassis and v12. You can buy an amazing Daytona for that price.
??? I just watched it and came out with two observations. First, can I get my couple of minutes back (didn’t bother with entire 5+ minutes) and then, while I don’t spend much time on BaT, the few (vintage) Ferrari driving videos I’ve seen there, look (and sound) like cars are being driven by some teenage girl practicing for DL test ?
I actually think this entire auction is less than honest from the dealer to the comments and not really sure about the bids….i guess buyer beware
I think the body is done very well, but it would have been a more accurate replica had the donner been a Boano, instead of a PF coupe. john
