From inside the cabin, actually reminds me so much of my 911...

The graphics on the passenger readout look horribly crude and blocky. I think someone mentioned that it's a 4K option, and in the age of smooth smartphone graphics that's the best they can do? I wouldn't pay a hundred dollars for that.

I'm confused. You saw me where, at the cars and coffee in Westlake? I do not have a corvette, nor have I thought of buying one. My toy these days is Porsche 911 Turbo S. I won't have my 488 until May or June. Are you confusing me with someone else?

The revs never got very high. Just when things started to get interesting...upshift and uninteresting again. Did not sound bad, however not as compelling as a 458, especially in the 9000 rpm neighborhood.

One stop l could hear the turn signal. Never heard this on my 458 spider. So is the turn signal REALLY LOUD or is the engine quiet? Could be the windows were rolled up and limited the exhaust sounds inside the cabin.

My impression is the sound is not bad. Pretty good in fact. If you never heard a 458 you could probably be fine with the 488. However, most here HAVE been to the mountain top and would miss the thrilling sounds of the 458 engine. Yes. We are spoiled.

    Thanks for posting the video.

(Not sure l want my passenger to see how fast we are going with a special speedometer/tach display on the passenger side. Would they say "slow down, you are driving too fast"? Or worse yet "speed up UR driving too SLOW. Lol)

Great video but she just doesn't scream like the NA engine. She sounds ok but at 8000 it just does not do it for me. I was waiting for that piercing scream and was left on a flat note. Just my opinion.

I feel as you do, although not in a hurry to give up my 458 (still enjoying it too much). I did do one thing you probably don't agree with, I sold my 2011 Porsche Turbo S , which to me was fast and boring, and bought a new C7 Z 06, which I added 100hp/100ft lbs tq, and feel 15 again, only with high tech (for example, no need for capristo or like I have on my 458, a "toggle" to open or close valves, the Z06 has the ability to "choose" how loud you want the exhaust on the display screen). I also own a 2010 Cadillac CTS V and ordered the new one with the same engine as the Z 06 (great cars with Recaro seats, Brembo Brakes etc). I am a little bit older than you, and like you have been "hot rodding" as soon as could find my first car (1948 Ford, which I lowered the front, painted my rendition of a "beatnick" on, and blew the motor in 6 months). I suspect our attitude has to do with age and experience. So many make so much out of so little. Good to be here, good to enjoy life. Happy holidays. Best

I actually really like the new Corvette and totally get owning one. That being said, I absolutely love my TTS. Don't find it boring for a minute. With 700 hp and race exhaust, it's hard to get bored. My new toy is a BMW i3. I've been drag racing everything with it... Lol

Anyway, men and their toys. Happy holidays Bob!!!

The video makes the 488 sound better than it actually does. The recording seems to mute the higher frequency sounds, and if it didn't you'd mostly be hearing the turbine whistle. As for the revs never getting that high, I don't think he was short shifting, that's as high as the engine goes.

I sold my 911, in part, to get away from that sound. I understand what you mean and anyone "honest" would have to admit the interior sound is comparable. As the video began, the exhaust note was not bad (from the outside), but clearly different, and imo, inferior to na sounds. Best

I'm actually more excited about the new Dino than the 488

2018 Ferrari Dino - first pictures, details | Autocar

If it's a bit smaller, lighter and has a great V6 it could be a lot more fun to drive around town.

I think it might be a good strategy to get a 488 and then trade it for an early Dino.

So where do you get all your information? They still scream yes, but they would not be as reliable. The turbo engines that do not scream is not because they are detuned, it is because they are tuned for the turbos. They want the engines to be reliable and operate efficiently while delivering lots of power. This theory that a turbo engine car is a cheap engine is rediculous. Go tell Bugati that the veyron is cheap because its engine is turbo charged. lol

    Funny,
I had long ago passed on idea of 488 for so many reasons. I have already told my dealer that in the back of my mind getting an early Dino while still holding onto my 458 spider was my current plan. If I loved the Dino I would then sell 458. If I didn't like Dino I would just "give it back" to the dealer to sell. Likely losing very little if any $$ in the process. Not willing to sell my 458 unless something clearly surpasses its fun/cost to own equation.

Hopefully they make it super light weight. I kind of wished they would keep it a N/A v6 if they are going to pump out the 500 hp range. Porsche does it with its gt3 so why shouldnt Ferrari be able to? V6 twin turbo and only 500 hp seems low for what is out there with a v6 twin turbo. Again, if it is much lighter than the competition it will make up for that but I still think they should go N/A v6.

Car sounds and performs very well from this video. Doesn't appear to be any turbo lag either. If I didn't know any better I would think it was my 458 Italia in that video :) Just sayin.

Video sounds better than my hands on driving with our 650s. That's saying a lot actually!

But...the sound is just not exciting relative to nearly every other Ferrari, sans Cali T.

If I want fast with no sound I'd get another 911TTS or GTR, or McL.

You are exactly right. When I test drove the car, I was really surprised to see how fast the redline was reached and how "uneventful" it was.
