make that tool. it aligns the shift shaft in neutral i think and hold it there while you can adjust the shift lever to center of the gated shifter plate.

but, if you are in some sort of nether world gear selection, you may have to pull the side cover off to visually align it. that means you have to pull the motor mount and exhaust manifold. takes like 30 minutes. you have to drain the gearbox too.

No need to remove the cover.

There are 3 selector levers inside the gearbox that the shiftshaft engages. I'll bet the shaft has been pushed into the gear box.

Turn the shaft so the bushing hole is vertical. Pull the shaft back towards you..it will stop..now twist the shaft to the left if facing the engine while at the same time putting slight pressure towards you while turning.

The shaft will suddenly come forward. With the shaft still angled down slowly push it into the gear box while turning it back to center..you will eventually engage the first gear selector.

Once it's on the selector..pull the shaft out slightly (light pressure) against the first selector and continue twisting it back to center..you will then feel the second selector..continue you will feel the third. You want to center the shaft on the middle selector..that will be 2nd and 3rd. Can can feel the de-tent between the selectors..and center from there.
