General question to see what the demand is for these.

I need to replace one of my fronts as it has a slight buckle and has been on my list of to do's for a while, I have been looking out for a replacement for a while but with no success. When the 'Ratarossa' arrived it had TRX size rims and I was lucky enough to get a set of 16s, however this was prior to the lack of tyre availability so the price was reasonable a couple of years ago, plus as an added bonus I was happy to change as tyre technology has moved on since the TRX of the 80s so from a safety aspect it also made sense.

With the Rear TRX tyres 280/45 VR415 no longer available from Michelin I suspect any 16" wheels that do come up for sale get snapped up quickly and are super expensive.

I am working with a wheel company at the moment on another project and wondering if its worth also getting them to manufacture some sets of replica 16" Testarossa wheels ?

Pretty sure someone posted a link in the last week or so to a British wheel manufacturer who does a replica. It was elsewhere on the site I believe.

I’m actually looking for a full, factory original set but so far have not found one that’s reasonably priced.

I think both NTM and Image Wheels will make them in whatever size you want

That size does not compliment the car. Keep the original 16 inch wheels.

17” wheels look fine too. But 18” definitey looks bizarre in TR’s

How are pre-lug Testarossas being driven at all without tire availability? I don’t get it.

After market wheels in my case. Its nice having brand new, modern 17” tires. And in the size this set takes (245 front and 315 rear), there is a really cheap tire option that is just fine given the age of the car.

    Looks lovely! Who makes yours?

However, there are so many cars for sale with the standard wheels. One assumes they’re just passing the problem on to the new owner. They can’t be safe to drive given the age of the tires.

If the car has rhe non-metric 16” wheels then there are tire options as far as I know. Only the metric wheels are an evolutionary dead end. If the car is sold with metric wheels plan on finding a wheel replacement. Original non-metric wheels seem rare has hens teeth. I’ve never seen a set for sale and dont know what they would sell for.

Aren’t all the non-lug wheels metric?

No. Some 85/86/87/88 cars came in with 16x8/10” wheels. I’m not sure if there was a point in time where all cars came in with standard wheels or not. Someone here will know.

Personally I like the monodado look SO much more than the five-lugs that I consider it a fun little quork that youll have to dea with if you own one. Ideally find one with the 16” wheels from the get-go so you can run stock wheels with modern tires.

Just to put my bit in i would encourage you to stick with 16" wheels.

Going 18" will not be so kind on your car as you will loose a whole 1" in side wall. Yep modern cars run on 18" but they are modern cars not old ones. horses for cvourses.

You can buy the correct 16" Michelin on here https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/ferrari/testarossa.html

Hopefully i will be getting new Pirelli tyres for these cars soon as well offering a choice

Thought that was a weird way to have the website myself. Saw this in the “News” section for the Classic division of Michelin.

The account ‘type’ options on the registration page imply that they sell at a wholesale level only.
