Hey guys, I just got an email revealing the new 296GTB. What struck me is that they are very much focused on the sound and “perceived acceleration” instead of overall performance. I was pretty impressed with the 663 hp they are proclaiming. I also like the styling and the digital dash. Looks much more in line with modern cars. Not sure about the hybrid technology and how long you get the extra boost from the electric engine. They are claiming that there is zero turbo lag and that sounds pretty good. In my 488, I am not bothered by any lag, so I’m sure for me, that this would be something that I wouldn’t notice.
Now the question is, will I try and order one?

here’s a link to the new premier I got: https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/auto/296-gtb?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2021_FerrariCarLaunchJune&utm_content=REVEAL&idm=d5683d14b21a670cc670289073c6d4c1&ids=eac5f70aad217242d0ab58adca510c5036da790574938a0f3d6a0c11aff5c1fb

They also stated the Hybrid batteries add close to 200HP for a total of over 800. It reminded me of an Alfa Romeo 4C on steroids (and that is not a bad thing at all). I think it is a nice addition to the line up. Still love my 458 Spider for the sound.

Love the rear. Front is ok. Profile view is meh.
Anyway , the good news is that they are returning to the elegant design. That rear is best rear from the 90s. Smooth and soft lines, no stupid cutting and sharp lines.
Use this design language for the 812 replacement please. This one is too small for me. Any news about the 812 replacement?

    I think it's genuinely a beautiful car.

However...V6 Turbo, Hybrid...not really going to produce a great noise (I wasn't particularly impressed with the V8 Turbos, either, compared to the NA V8). Will also be a weighty pork...speaking of pork, if forced to buy a brand new car today, I'd be going straight to the Porsche dealer for a GT3 instead. 2nd hand I'll simply take the 458 Speciale...;)

I really like the styling but never was a fan of touch screen controls. Although you can’t get more funky than the 458 using buttons on the left and a knob on the right. Why!?

all quiet, I've seen 2023-2024 for a reveal...to me that means never

but, consider this, the 296GTB at 830PS(or is it HP, probably PS) matches the special edition 812 (812c) power output

and the V12 in the 812c is maxxed out (so much so they had to drop the torque by nearly 4% as compared to the standard 812SF just to increase the horsepower)

so, if there is an 812 replacement, it will likely have a new V12+hybrid as its power would have to be higher than the 296GTB...

but, I think there will be no 812 replacement, I think V12 for regular production is over, except, maybe, in the FUV, even then, very likely to be hybrid and new smaller block

Me too. Was thinking there has to likely be a lot of angry SF90 owners this morning.

but the 430 owners are laughing as theirs are manual, naturally aspirated, less computers, and will maintain value vs. depreciate 40%. :)

I've driven a Roma with them. There are so many functions and features and tech seems to be pretty stable from my limited seat time. I don't think there is anything they missed in terms of feature set - which I believe was the goal.

After reflecting on the positioning of the 296 GTB I see it as a more accessible alternative to the SF90, both on price and likely production quantities, not a replacement nor differentiated enough to warrant collecting it alongside a SF90. Said another way it brings the S(90 platform to the “masses” and in particular new customers to the brand with more futuristic personalities than my own. Interestingly they stressed this is not a replacement for any other car in the range suggesting to me that the F8 will continue in the line up for a while.

Not bad, but, incredibly underwhelming design :( missed opportunity as with SF90

    SF90 > strike 1
    296 > strike 2
    Purosangue > ?

    > (exterior design only)

I'm impressed with this car. To be honest, I wasn't even looking forward to the presentation this morning. I didn't think I was going to like it.. But when I saw it, I really liked it.

40% is a pretty hefty number for depreciation on the sf90. If it was a mclaren I’d agree wholeheartedly

I think Ferrari are putting some spin on saying this is not a replacement of an existing model. Price point and naming convention make this an F8 replacement in my opinion not to mention performance. By saying this is not a replacement they are making it unique, doubt F8 will be replaced this is it but as its V6 hybrid not a direct replacement. At a guess this V6 set up will find it's way into the Roma and the V8 hybrid into the 812 replacement with V12's for La Ferrari type models.

my favorite view of this very nice Ferrari, that replaces the F8 from January 2022

And the roof shape clearly shows there will be a GTS very soon.

    Ciao

Agree. Can’t see how it’s not a replacement. There is no room between the 296 and SF90 for another mid-engined sportscar. I guess they don’t want to kill F8 sales just yet if they can help it. They can still say it’s a non-hybridised V8 so differentiated and it will slowly die. More interesting will be to see what Challenge car they launch end of this year. The 488C Evo was 2019 - doubt there will be an F8-based Challenge car.

The long awaited return of the Dino 246, not too fond of the tail light & mid 90's Chevy Camaro like nose. When I see it in person I'm sure it will grow on me.

It was subtle, Leiters said 1.77 times power (830PS) so 1469kg, presumably that is dry weight
