In reality there are only a handful of non original F40 out there compared to the actual number produced.

Less desirable examples used to become LM clones back when the cars were way more affordable, that stopped some time back when it made more sense to tidy them up instead and go the Classiche route to expunge the sins of the past.

Those LM type cars (mainly from Japan) may well now become donors for Liberty Walk type conversions for the new generation of F40 buyers.

I don't see them using standard cars, the numbers would not add up.

There's a market for anything including Franken F40s, but it's rarely an educated one, case in point the Gas Monkey F40, when it was first was put up for auction in 2014 it was bid up to an astonishing-for-what-it-was $742,500, but just a year later sanity prevailed and in 2015 it changed hands again for $643,500 a $100,000 or loss in value underscoring the point. This car is no different and the educated market sees it at around $1m less than it sold for regardless of what someone wants to feel free to pay. Meanwhile Bravo to the man who purchased it, I hope he tracks it, rallies it, and makes lots of YouTube videos with it.

If it was also a rare original Lexan Sliding Windows car, there'd be special interest.

I don't preach anything, what I've always said is, you have to take assess any market completely, and where F40s are concerned, this means public auctions, private sales, showroom sales etc,

    Correct.

1990 Ferrari F40 ZFFGJ34B000085308 with 9,538 kilometers (5,927 miles) https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pa23/paris/lots/r0083-1990-ferrari-f40/1319376 hammered for 1,700,000 Eu which means all-in at $2,099,989 yet again underscoring the trend.

    from the description:
" a repair was carried out to the body panel beneath the passenger side rear quarter window, along with the offside rear corner. Importantly, the body is noted as having its original panels in the accompanying Ferrari Classiche certification and during a recent inspection the matching body numbers were found on the front and rear clams, and the doors."

So after the seller pays the commission (8% at RM I believe) he’ll net $1,598,000. The friction costs of these cars at auction is substantial and it seems sellers always want to point to full gross and buyers actual net when referencing these “comps”.

That’s a nice result for a 5k car.. 3.3 million USD.. this is pretty much market correct for a great car., mileage and provenance is key.
These will be 5 million in the not to distant future

Indeed, that said a number of realistic sellers with no appetite for the auction spread will sell privately in the high $1ms as I've noted before.

Paul how do you compute 2,650,000 Euros as sold by TJH a dealer to be $3,300,000 when it's in fact $2,911,120?

Sorry Joe, the car sold in GBP, so I rounded it up.. more like 3,287 USD, I did not think my math was that bad.
A nice number for a nice car.

Was there any mention of the repaired damage or additional eu duties applicable when it recently "sold" on collecting cars?

I’m not sure but that info was publicly available the last time the car was at one of the bigger auctions. If you google the vin you will find it.

No argument here. This is not a car I would ever consider nor do I think it sold correctly. However, I see results all the time that make no sense to me and wonder what perspective the buyer (and underbidders) had that made them view it so differently. It’s more for curiosity than anything else. As a hobby, the market can be fascinating and at the end of the day it’s a merely a source of entertainment for me.
