For $3.965 mil you'd think the engine bay would look a bit better, no? Image Unavailable, Please Login .
Proving yet again that the Tipo USA F40 is significantly more valuable than the Eu/ROW F40 which is not surprising considering they are 6 times as rare.
It would be interesting to see a similar mileage and provenance non cat car that scored 100 points at Cavallino come to auction in Monterey for comparison. I believe 300 made of the non cat cars?
@Rifledriver Brian, the Mecum guys quoted you in their listing. But it was the Gooding car that you gave a 100-point score, correct? Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk

I just ran the carfax on that one and it is listed as a total loss vehicle back when the car was new - in 1990... Does anyone know the story?
No but I bet it is a good one. At the very beginning several met with unfortunate incidences. One at the next dealer over had one of those and we heard about it before all the pieces landed.
#87031 >>> this is all I could find. Joe Sackey could shed some light. pics? 32 years ago https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/138631211/ May 2009 - "Wrecked on delivery by salesman back in 1990, fixed by Phil Conte, last service 1998, sitting in display/museum environment ever since." .
It should look "fluffed" and at the same time natural; not dirty and corrosive appearing. The yellow F50 that Karim shared comes to mind as a "Dolly Bird"...
Most cars at this level (and far below) have been detailed for max eye appeal. The owner of that car apparently wanted to save a thousand schrute bucks. .
Many more than that, of the @ 1,100 Eu/ROW cars I think the majority of the cars that come to the market are described as non-cat F40s, I'd suggest there are @ 700 which makes sense given that the jurisdictions they were sold to allowed this, that still leaves 400 cat cars. The production F40 that stands apart is the rare Lexan sliding-windows variant, at last count with Marcel's help, we identified just @ 89 cars. I brought to this to the attention of someone who took the time to call me, needless to say he didn't buy this car, that said, I've advised others about other F40s with clear provenance or status issues who still went ahead and purchased the car. Nothing to add, Keith Verges' post is underscored by Carfax. Today, many sellers don't care about these cars per se, their interest is mostly in the upside potential, so attention to detail doesn't motivate them much and they realize that some buyers don't care about attention to detail either, ergo the fact that many of them come to auction looking quite scruffy. As I trade these cars regularly, the overall impression I get in the current market for whatever reason is one of a rush to purchase these cars, any example, at whatever price possible, time will tell if many of these purchases were astute.
