    Sometimes when your'e feeling important,
Sometimes when your ego's in bloom,
Sometimes when you think that by far
Your'e the most qualified man in the room,
Sometimes when you think that your leaving
    Will leave an unfillable hole,
    Just follow these simple instructions
And see how they humble your soul,
Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Plunge your hands in it up to your wrists,
Remove them and the hole that remains there
Is the measure of how you'll be missed,
You can splash all you may when you enter
You can stir up the water galore
But stop, and you'll find in a moment,
It looks just the same as before,
The moral of this is quite simple
It is "do the best that you can
Be kind to yourself but remember
    There is no indispensable man".

Think out side the box kid. If I kick the **** out of that bucket, the hole I leave {no water at all, let alone the water my hands would displace} would be 30, 40 over even 50 times greater.

The moral of this quote is, don't read rhymes and think that they contain the meaning of life. If you want to run the world, go do it. Done. Finished. Over.

Not quite - you should have been a philosopher- NOT. Get a life and see the good side of humanity and acquire a sense of humour. Life is too short to be a pessimist. Water is a precious commodity. If you destroy the bucket of water by kicking the **** out of it you are wasting a precious commodity. I hope I never break down on the side of the road and have you around for assistance.

Actually I was thinking along the same lines. If I tip the bucket over there is no whole left to fill. By the way I am pretty otpimistic usually but I don't really see the beauty in this one either. Maybe it's just me??

If you want to take the poem seriously there would still be a deficit once you remove your hands because the level in general would be lower than it was with your hands in it. Just my take!

Edit: oh yeah one more thing. I have been known to stop on the side of the road to help people out :)

Let a juicy one rip just before you leave the room. That's always a good way to be remembered.

You guys have taken this poem/verse far too literally/seriously -I heard it from a Canadian guy some 40 years ago and remembered it off by heart. It was never meant to be taken too seriously - only to look at yourself in the mirror, 'tongue in cheek', and see that we are not immortal.

The bucket has the exact volume of my two fists and I plunged my fists into the water and pulled them out. The bucket is empty. Damn, I must be indispensable. Kick Ass.

So no one should feel important? We are all worthless? I wouldn't hang that poem on my wall.

It sounds like something my hippie sister would say to me. Did I mention I have to cut her cheques every month so she can pay her rent.

Wow, you figured out that I'm Porsche fan? Hey Congratulations. I’ll stick to being a Porsche Wannabe while you can stick to being a Pseudo-Philosophical Wanker. Personally I’d rather be a Porsche Wannabe.

Just because you heard it 40 years ago from a Canadian doesn't mean the damn poem came from Canada {not that it would mean anything}. Like I said before in the post that was deleted, {which probably got me banned for a day, I don't know because I didn't get an email explaining why}. Only weak minded people treasure these kinds of things. The poem barely makes any sense and when you try to think it through, it's depressing.
    Here's a new poem:

There's a bucket of clean water,
drink as much as you can,
use the rest to clean yourself,
    because you never know when,
you'll come across something free again.

The world is a tough place, those who take solace in things like this need as much help as they can get.

So far vegas1 has insulted me twice, probably had me banned, insulted Aureus once and no one is taking this thing seriously.

If the cap(s) fit - then wear it guys. Like I said, this poem (or whatever you'd like to call it) was posted tongue in cheek. You guys flamed me and denigrated my effort at philanthrophy. And when I responded with a few fun words, you each spat out your dummies and sulked. Get a life. Life's too short to quibble.
And I'm far from being a hippy.

You're the one that started name calling and throwing insults.

And you should ask your mom what "tongue in cheek" means, because your first post isn't it.

    "fun words"?

    Not immortal doesn't mean indispensable.

Do you think negitive poems {= no one is worth anything} is philanthropy?

    Read the poem over again.

If I splash around like the poem says, then there will be less water... I will leave a mark or hole that isn't being replaced.

As far as being important, some of us are and some of you aren't.

And if you want a real test of whether or not, you will be missed, why take a bucket of water as an example? Why not remove yourself from what you deem is your life's work? < Wouldn't that be the real test?

A guy with a few too many beers spouted something he read from a book and yet it isn't magical... it doesn't even make sense.

Hurl more insults, that seems to be working.

How about we just let the thread die? We've gotten our bits in and there is no where postive to go from here.
