That just goes to show you that experience doesn't always mean you know what you're talking about, or what you're doing. Case in point.
I am one of the Massa-supporters. I like the guy and I think he does great at the wheel of a F2008. OK, Silverstone was awful but it would be nonsense to assume Silverstone was in anyway testament to Massa´s abilities. He can do much better and he has shown that many, many times. My beef with the nay-sayers is that Massa can´t do anything right. If he wins it means nothing because others were performing below their abilities or they just had bad luck. If he takes pole it is because ´the track suits him´. If he takes second, he is a loser because he didn´t win at the wheel of a Ferrari. If his teammate takes the title, Massa is a loser because he lost out to a teammate once again. It is REALLY pathetic and you can only realistically sustain this view on Massa when you are just out to troll or if you have just no understanding of racing and Formula 1 in particular. And then there´s the rubbish of him being a #2 driver. He isn´t and why should he? He has beaten Kimi consistently in qualifying and in the race he isn´t that far behind, even if he is behind. Therefor a comparison with Irvine and Barrichello isn´t correct. Schumacher was without a doubt in a different class to these two and that isn´t the case with Raikkonen and Massa. Sure, at the end of the day Raikkonen probably comes out on top, but as long as Raikkonen doesn´t improve in qualifying and isn´t consistently beating Massa in the race, Ferrari has no interest in designating Massa to the #2 spot. I am pretty sure they are treated as equals these days and that this only changes when one of them is mathematically without chance.
Replace the name Massa, with Lewis and you have the same. Look at the thread "Hamilton scraps triathlon battle" pathetic, what's that all about..
Massa to Honda will solve all the problems. Lets see which of the two is faster from brazil. there are many other drivers that is better fit for ferrari. why massa why? what was MS thinking?
my problem with south american drivers are that, they automatically think they are best because senna. come on, not all germen drivers are like MS. i'm sure most of the massa fans are from brazil as well.
Massa out of the Ferrari seat will solve all my problems. I really enjoyed him driving the Sauber. Honestly.
Hahaha. Too funny. About Kimi being outqualified, all I can say is that its something he needs to work on, for sure. DC would outqualify Kimi when they were a McLaren. Is DC a better driver than Kimi?
I'm sure glad the Scuderia doesn't share your view point. It is my opinion that Massa belongs in a red car. I guess the math will bear it out at the end of the season.
If you you keep mixing the debate about Massa with the debate about Hamilton, this is going to be a loooong discussion.
So? You are bashing Massa because Hamilton gets bashed? Bashing Hamilton is as dumb as bashing Massa.
You're implying that DC couldn't win races? He has an average of 2.24 points per race over a career that spans 15 years, the last 7 of which in a crappy car. Massa has averaged 2.59 pts per race in 6 seasons. 3 sh*t car, 3 top car. Including their current WDC standing, Coulthard has an avg standing in the WDC of: 6.87. Massa: 7.83 By the numbers, Couthard has finished an avg. of 1 position higher in the WDC standings than Massa over their current carreers (including this season where Massa is currently leading jointly after 9 races and Coulthard is 13th). I would say that they are pretty equal as far as stats go. If Coulthard didn't care about racing and just cared about stats, he could have retired after McLaren with some impressive numbers. Point is, he understood he was never the #1 at McLaren. He won races, challenged for titles, and even pulled off some spectacular passes. So has Massa. It doesn't mean he's the #1. Hell, Eddie Irvine almost won the WDC in '99 by 2 pts. Does that mean he's atop people's driver's lists? In this day and age, the machine you pilot is the determining factor of your WDC competitiveness. Its the unfortunate truth. Massa has had the most competitive car the last couple of seasons. He has placed well. But the minute he moves out of a Ferrari, he's gonna be nowhere. Another Rubens, but not as understanding. Of interest: Kimi has an avg of 3.85 pts per race over 11 seasons, with a WDC standing position avg of 4.5. Michael, in 16 seasons (15 of which in a top team) has an avg. of 5.48 pts per race, with a WDC standing avg. of 3.47 or 4.6 (depending how you count his DSQ. in 1997)
That is only half the story since the drivers status on the drivermarket determins the machine he pilots. Topteams carefully select their drivers and they get first pick on the drivermarket and Massa being employed by Ferrari didn´t come by accident.
Massa's employment by Ferrari came from Michael Schumacher wanting a #2 driver like Rubens. Kimi's employment from Ferrari came from them wanting WCCs, and him wanting WDCs. Alonso's employment by Ferrari in the future will be the same thing. He's looking for a top seat. He's the most capable driver in the field. Kimi is my favorite, but part of the reason I like Kimi is also the fact that he'll leave as soon as he stops having fun. He's got for sure a WDC. Possibility to 3x WDC by the time his contract ends. If that is the case (and I hope it is!) I'm sure he'll retire happy and content. And Alonso will come in... But this is more for another thread on here, so i'll keep this Massa-based. Massa isn't going to be a Ferrari #1 driver. Even if Massa wins the WDC this year, it will be from OTHERS' mistakes more than his talents. That is my opinion, and unfortunately why I don't think he deserves to be a WDC as much as some other drivers.
