Well. At the time, Ferrari doubled-down and continued that design language with the 348. Almost went out of business :). LDM set things straight.

Largely agree. I never thought the Testarossa from the 80's was attractive. Haven't change my mind in close to 40 years.

Bold? Sure. Striking (in its day)? You bet. Beautiful, attractive, gorgeous? Never.

Sometimes ... quite often, in fact ... ugly just stays ugly.

The wheels are throwing me off as well. They scream luxury, not motorsport. A car of this caliber should have come with centerlocks. I hope they have more wheel options, which I believe can help fix the look somewhat.

That’s fair. Let’s see what the true La Ferrari successor brings us. Not sure why people get so twisted about a car few will ever see, let alone own. If you are going to take chances, better with the Iconas I suppose.

Thought it over and while I like it there is no avoiding comparison to jims p4/5. To me, Jim's has no bad lines or views. Its basically perfectly sryled. Daytona is close but not quite that

It’s not what I was expecting. Had to reset my brain and just look at it for what it is. With that said, and after watching some of the videos of it, I like it. Not my favorite Ferrari, but definitely like it.

Absolutely, it is posted a few pages before, sorry but I lost track of the exact post. Look for the video of the SP3 and P4's around mugello this morning.

Now that it is out, what does it actually bring to the table that's new?

Seems to be a pastiche model, trading on links to the past to simply sell to rich collectors, its not fish or foul.

    Emperors new clothes.

'Gone wrong' sounds like the overstatement of the decade, given the HUGE success of the Testarossa in every aspect.

Did the Testarossa set the stage for future designs? Or did it end right there?

Your rant is obvious as much as it is unfair at this early stage in SP3 life :D

Why would it need to set stage for future designs to be successful? It was successful for a good 10 years until it was over. Not every successful design has set pace for future ones. Whichever way you want to put it, I don't think it went wrong, at all. It was a true icon of its era.

    > #26 was late to get on track at start. Did he push it a little too hard to catch up? I'm sure they wanted all 4 cars together.

Read my comment again. Lots of 80’s design was a contemporary vision of the future, but the future turned out to vastly different, which is what I meant by “gone wrong.” Wasn’t referring to success in sales.

They couldn’t get it started for awhile. Had to use a mallet on the starter and ended up having to push start it. Seemed like the driver was accelerating too early to catch up…but impossible to know for sure.

That's the point. I expected something different. More like James Glickenhaus P4/5 but not this. But it doesn't look bad to me. From the back this car looks sexy. From the front a bit to busy for my taste. Particularly I don't like the black elements underneath the headlights.

I'm confused at the weight of this thing...how can it weigh the same as a Laferrari despite the removal of batteries?

Photoshopped the rear end, not a fan of the strakes.

Cool car but I think I'd prefer a Laferrari.

Enough with the design; it is what it is.

What really struck me is that per Ferrari's website, it has the exact same power/weight ratio as the 296; 1.77 kg/CV, and is 0.1'' slower to 200 kph. So you pay a cool 2 millions and a V6 outruns you...

That’s a very nice alteration. The strakes are still there….but they aren’t shouting to be seen. And as a result the entire car calms down to the eyes a bit.

I will not be surprised if in a few years….this will be a coveted design and all this negativity will dissipate like steam.
