Jay Leno on why he doesn't have a Ferrari....

    who f@##king cares

He prefers steam powered cars and commercial trucks in many cases. Yes he is a nice guy. I've chatted with him on several occasions. I've seen him so many times that when he is ever in auto/aerobooks when I'm there, I most often ignore his presence.

He's a rich celebrity on tv. Ok, get past that and see him around a lot or not, it doesn't really matter. He's passed by me in the aisle with body odor and a slovenly appearance after he's pulled up in a giant steam engine car. So good for him. To me, he's more of a character than a celebrity. He indeed adds character to the Valley.

But unless he's going to pour bags of money out onto the sidewalk for me when I see him, I'm not interested in his celebrity nor his lack of a Ferrari. Not really. In public he wants to be "one of the guys" and he largely pulls that off. He's very unpretentious when you speak with him, but very eccentric when you see what he has arrived in. He's a one-man circus. He's actually more interesting in person and in public than on his snoring, sleepy, tv show.

I don't like him anymore or less than if he liked/had a Ferrari. Whatever.

Maybe, but if he knows about it he probably thinks there are a whole bunch of people that need to get a life and he would be right.

    Who cares what he owns?

Want to own one? Go buy one.

When did Leno become the epitome of all things ownership?

The Fall 2008 issue of Garage Style Magazine has Part II of an article about Jay's Big Dog Garage. One of the pictures shows the nose of what looks like a 308 in it.

I get a very odd feeling reading all these stories about goofy salespeople, Jay Leno and so on. I could care less how the dealers are - I am not doing business with any of them anyway. I bought my Mondial t from a private party, and do all my own service. I don't pay Ferrari prices for my parts - hell, I try not to not even buy the same brands of parts as Ferrari sells. I believe all the stuff about the factory being snotty and all, but, again none of that has anything to do with how I feel about my car.

How do I feel about my car? I love it like no other - it's simply the integrity of the design and engineering that captivates me. I am pretty sure that Enzo was a very difficult character, and doubt I would have liked him at all, however, I have to give him his due - he let the engineers do their work in a way that simply does not exist at all in other modern brands. Maybe my car is not a typical Ferrari - I have no way of knowing, but it is by far the easiest to work on car I have ever touched. Nothing is schwaked together to save 15 cents on the assembly line. It is not perfect, nothing is of course, but it is by far the nicest piece of automotive engineering work that I could afford to buy.

As for Jay, he is a great story teller and that is what he is doing here too. Read sometimes about his Duesy quests - that guy will get any car he wants if he really wants it. I think that for whatever reason, he just decided that something about the Ferrari "image" is not for him. Hell, if I had a Deusenberg collection, I probably wouldn't bother with Ferraris either. But I don't, so I am tremendously grateful that Mr. Ferrari nurtured the last gasp of the kind of integrity that is now now non-existent in the car business, but was once so richly delivered by Duesenberg, et al.

Hell, I drove up to my local dealership seeking maintenance support IN MY FERRARI and they treated me like I just wasn't there. F-um.

I'll take my car to another dealership when I get to maintenance I cannot do.

Walked into Continental in Hinsdale IL. being very interested in a car they had. Didn't have any trouble
getting a salesman to talk to us, BUT once my wife pointed out a car she thought looked nice, the salesman was
only interested in selling us "that" car...nevermind the fact that I was there for a different car. I tried to turn the
conversation back to the one I might actually buy, but I only attempted this once, then sat back and laughed while
he wasted his time trying to sell my wife a car...(she could care less, but thought it was "cute.
Never went back and never will.

Can't blame Jay. Sure he knows he could buy one from a private seller but he probably wants to make a point of not owning any Ferraris to take a dig at the company.

You can love the cars but hate the Company.

I have to echo many on this thread. Ferrari of Dallas has just been fantastic to me. When they were near Classic's old place, they did have an ****** of a salesman, but after the move, every visit has gotten better. My last 2 times were nothing but short of kindness. A salesman opened up a F430 for me even though I couldn't afford it, and the last time, I was asked if I was interested in taking one of their used cars off their hands. That's a salesman for ya. :)

Unfortunately, I can't say the same for Lamborghini, lately. The last time I was at LoD, they acted like I was nothing but a ghost. Must be the new salesmen I'd never seen before. :(

NY man named with Leno in lawsuit commits suicide...or was he whacked?

NEW YORK (AP) — A parking garage executive sued along with "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno over their purchases of valuable vintage cars apparently has killed himself in upstate New York.

Police in Warwick said Dennis Ricca died Oct. 17 of a single gunshot wound to the head. The 55-year-old was found behind the wheel of his pickup truck in the driveway of his summer home in Greenwood Lake, about 50 miles northwest of Manhattan. A 9 mm handgun was by his side

I had a similar experience at the factory and it almost turned me against buying another car. I told the dealer about it and he said they treat him the same way. I say that anybody that pays 300k more or less for a car that they will drive 1k miles a year and pay 7k for a major and .5k for an oil change should have his ass kissed by the factory or at least treated like they were welcome. I still have ill will about my trip there.
