http://www.racer.com/driven-mclaren-mp4-12c/article/197034/ A test drive review by Steve Sutcliffe from Autocar. He didn't have a 458 for side by side comparo but reading the article and he basically calls the 458 an Ox-Cart relative to the Macca. I have a feeling this car will seriously embarrass every other high end car out there. Biggest advantage the Macca has is it's low weight. There is no substitute for lack of mass! Interesting.... Ferrari should be worried about this car.
Does the CF interior upgrade option actually replace the steering wheel with a full carbon fiber wheel, or is it just the metal trim that is replaced (i.e. the basic wheel remains the same part)?
Thanks, although this is a rehash of the Autocar review that was posted on this thread a bunch of pages back.
good question,i think it will be the metal trim,i have specced this option with black leather/alcantara and orange stitching.i will check when i test drive in april as my dealership has all the carbon options on their car
I am officially annoyed with McLaren: no factory visits till 4th quarter, possibly later. I find it quite pathetic.
Yes, McLaren, for all their espousing of a brilliant ownership experience, have totally sucked at it so far. I have been asking simple questions for some time now with zero response. I have been begging to go to the factory to see cars...the answer is simply NO. As I've said before (didn't I say I wouldn't whine about this again?), McLaren would have to raise their game substantially to be as bad as Ferrari at customer service. How sad is that? It is holding me back from pulling the trigger on the order. And with each passing day, it gets harder for me to understand the lack of communications and PR and marketing skills when it comes to perspective owners. Kind of sad, as I really like the car. There are certainly other ways to spend $280K that at this point would be as much fun....a buddy today suggested I should just jump into offshore boat racing...no THERE is a great way to spend money quickly. I am at this point leaning towards bagging the idea of the McLaren and just going back to a dedicated full-up dedicated race car, trailer, and tow vehicle and just go racing again and keep my F430 and SL55 for the street. And the car, trailer, and tow vehicle would cost enough less than the MP4-12C that I could likely pay for several years of racing including tires, brakes/rotors, entry fees, spares, hotels, fuel, meals, etc. After all, they will be making enough of these things that anyone will be able to pick up a used on in three years for less than half the original purchase price. Looking more and more like that may be the best route. It would give McLaren time to get their act together (or not) and prove they can actually create a great customer experience....call me skeptical. OK, I'll stop now. Time for a nice small batch bourbon to drown my frustration.
with the only carbon chassis in gt3 this year (i think) this will wipe the floor with the competiton,This will help with residuals for anyone not sure about an early car.
Seriously...does anyone have any idea as to the price tag? $300K? $400K? Wonder if they will sell to private individuals or only to racing teams?
Has anybody heard that IRIS is a mandatory option? i.e. it's not actually an option- you have to buy it?
no its an option.without it you dont get the uprated sound system or nav,but you do get bluetooth, also without it you dont get the possible downloadable upgrades that may be coming
i would if i had the cash! they are making 15 to start with ,then possibly up to 40,On the website late last year they were offering them to raceteams and privateers, not sure on the price, but i would think closer to £400k plus, sounds expensive ,but at only twice the price of a 12c i think its a bargin as it looks like alot of the panels are carbon, and there is alot of race tech in there too. think of the price differance between a gt3rs and rsr,a think nearly double
its still rumour, the real price is the nav and sound system, comparable in cost to most other supercar competitors, the rest would be just a bonus,ie free of charge if you have the system, plus you will need it for the track system, the cameras are wireless so they can be fitted anytime, but the track timing and telemetry would need the iris. Chris Goodwin did talk about it in an article ,im still trying to find it for you,but he seemed pretty convincing, but this would be sometime off ,im sure its one of their plans, but as you can see from their gt3 everything is happening pretty quick for a New company.seems they are focused on being the best (bar a few hiccups with customer service,/answers to questions in the US).They are doing things most car companys take a life time to do (if ever),For the few of us that have the choice of an early car,i think we will be glad we were here at the start and forget any small problems we might have had to endure sorry for the rant,i feel very lucky to be in this postion
yes, time is of the essence as I may have to spec my order very soon! if you can find the Goodwin quote, that would really help. Thanks.
Also, anybody have a pic of the polished calipers that are available with carbon ceramic option? I have seen them in a pic but cannot for the life of me re-locate it.
I don't blame you. The GT3 is so much better looking than the 12C. Hope this isn't a repeat post, just e-mailed to me from the local dealer. Enjoy http://www.youtube.com/mclarenautomotivetv I'm sorry but I have no idea how to place this you tube video into the post. I want my 12C to look like this then no one would say the 458 looks better, No One!
Is this the polished caliper, or the silver caliper? Looks like the polished, maybe, but I thought polished would be more like a chrome finish? Image Unavailable, Please Login
