Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Perhaps more extraordinary is the fact
that, for each horsepower produced, the
12C emits just 0.47g of carbon dioxide.
That makes it more efficient than virtually
any other car on sale, including diesels
and hybrids, when judged on power output
    versus CO2 emissions.

The MP4-12C is a new kind of sports car built to satisfy the diverse demands of 21st century driving. From crowded city streets to inter-continental highways. From sinuous mountain passes to wide-open race tracks. Night or day. Rain or shine. Hugely powerful yet highly efficient. Blisteringly fast but wholly accessible. Compact and spacious. Light and strong. Understated yet unmistakable. MP4-12C: ‘Pure McLaren’, designed for you.

You know, when I looked at this car the first time, I wasn't impressed. It looked competent, but not gorgeous. But as time went on, and as we received more information and visuals, it began to look beautiful.

That particular picture is downright stunning.

you are getting alot of info from london, manchester have decided not to give out production dates as they think it might be a bit misleading this early on,the best ive have got is a production slot mid june, but as the car takes 20 days to make, mine could be the same as yours.if yours really is 102,first there will be the vips and shareholders then the first cars to the showrooms which could number quite a few if europe gets them at the same time as the uk,so yours will probably be among the first 30 or so customer cars?im am not sure on the dealer allocation in the uk,but i assume london will get a higher share.
have you been told you will in the first group or second?im in the first group of 10 from manchester but not sure which car as they think they will be getting them in small batches.
will you be at dunsfold on weds 6th,manchester is 7th and now i know birmingham is the 8th, 9 people in the morning and afternoon per dealership i think.i wanted to pick mine up at the factory, but being an early car they are not geared up for it yet which is understandable

Well, as I've mentioned before, if you venture off of ferrarichat, you will certainly find many people that agree with your admiration of the car. I think even when some of the journalists say things like "a little bland", it has to be taken with a grain of salt since they are used to seeing flamboyant supercars all the time as part of their job. Even still, some of the most influential, like Sutcliffe, Kacher and Clarkson (of all people) think that the car is good-looking.

Again, I think McLaren did themselves no favours by releasing the original press images that are very watered down looking and made the car look less sharp than it actually is. But alas, I don't want to start another "style" debate, so I'll just conclude with today's reactions from the Twitter feed that I monitor every day for any new info about the car. i.e. these are posts from the general population for the last 12 hours, reacting to the 12C wherever they may have seen it:

Very well said. As regards to styling, I would rather have the MP4 ("bland" as it may be) rather than an outrageous, look-at-me design a la Gallardo or Koenigsegg, but again, I realize that is a personal choice. The McLaren F1 is one of the best looking cars of all time, but it didn't set the styling world on fire when it debuted; it has aged very gracefully, and I'm sure we can expect the same from the MP4.

Your point about Ferrarichat is quite true -- I remember someone in the "458 vs MP4" thread calling it "butt-ugly". Styling is quite subjective, but to call it ugly would require copious amounts of rossa corsa kool-aid.

    Hi Andy

I think I'm in the 2nd batch and as far as I can tell London are getting around 50% of the cars with Birmingham and Manchester getting 25% each. IIRC my car is number 22 for the London dealer but that number includes VIPs being supplied though them.

Not at Dunsfold yet! although I'm first reserve, apparently I didn't automatically qualify as the Dealer will have demonstrator ahead of my delivery

I'm hoping to get to see my car in production an I have a couple of mates who work at Mclaren

Hi Mark,if what you are saying pans out,and london gets twice the allocation, then we will probably get our cars within a couple of days of each other, also if the numbers are right it looks like they are on schedule to make 100 a month, not bad from a standing start, and near the 1000 a year, hope they keep it at that to protect residules?

The best ones are always controversial, it seems. Even the Daytona, as I understand, was panned by many so-called experts when it launched. Anyway, you are right- it's subjective so who really cares one way or another.

A couple more Twitter reactions from this morning. Some of them are funny:

As, McLaren has designs towards a "family" of vehicles positioned around the MP4-12C, such as a successor to the F1 (in spirit & market-segment) as well as an entry-level exotic- namely the "P13", has any new & accurate info been released w/ regards to the latter (I read in Wiki it's been postponed till 2015)?

An exotic ~$125k+ (base) mid-engine aluminum monocoque w/ some composites & i4 or V6 (boosted, but of-course) would be tasty, along w/ giving Porsche's 911 & high-end GT's a run for their money (ie. Ferrari California GT, Maserati GranTurismo, Aston Martin Vantage, MB SLS, Audi R8, etc).

Obviously, any rumor or innuendo of such would be ill-advised at this point as to not encroach on the MP4-12C limelight. Though, I am curious & the press along w/ Macca' were quite vocal regarding P8-concepts in the past.
