apparently they havent got a car with a sports exhaust on yet,so i think the standard will be loud enough for most people,on the video the car is in track/track

I was told when I was ordering mine that the only difference between the standard and optional exhaust was weight ---- they claim the exhausts both make the same noise and performance / backpressure, etc.

Much better (and cheaper) for me to buy a US car in the States --- I can then take it into Canada much easier than buying it up there and trying to bring it into the States (US DOT makes that very, very problematic). Although, I will probably keep it only at one place or the other.

Yes, they "say" they are going to be a full service Dealer, but for now they are just 2 guys with a desk and a phone taking orders! I'm sure they will fully develop the franchise --- it's just a matter of when. I may need service work before they are up and running....

Not sure who you are dealing with at Pfaff, but they are the furthest thing from a fly by night car dealership, if that is what you are suggesting? Maybe we are talking about two different companies.

Typical McLaren, they are bringing a new exhaust to the race and even they don't know what the performance difference is.... ;)

    think they are wrong there,

After homoligtion of the stainless std exhaust only 1 kilo between them, due to the inconel one having to have the extra weight of bypass valves,
i did ask chris goodwin what he thought, and he said the sports was 4 db louder ,which is alot, but with a more metallic sound,so dont waste your money if your looking for weight saving

Yes I was told marginal weight saving, more sound, Inconel material. My hope is that in Normal setting, it is still somewhat muted at low revs. I thought for sure Sutcliffe's road trip silver car had Sports, from the sound in the tunnel video. But I guess that was standard exhaust, then.

Interested to hear what this "metallic" timbre is going to sound like.....

That's what I was told as well..that the sports exhaust was a bit louder and better sounding.

It seems like all the US McLaren dealers are separate from their parent company's other brands and physical buildings and that new buildings need to be built. So, most are somewhat virtual at this point.

Even Button is unsure of which brakes to get. From Car....Jenson still has to hammer out a financial deal with Ron Dennis, who is adamant Button must pay for his ride. 'Then all I've got to do is decide whether I want ceramic brakes or not.'

With all due respect, I was absolutely aware of the ongoing discussion on brakes, if your only intent was to offer an opinion & to discuss the merits of CC over steel, then that is what you should have done, not launched straight into giving details & links & what certainly appeared to me to be an attempt to sell after market rotors.

I apologise if that was not your intention, although it sure seemed that :)

BTW I have been keeping up on this thread quite religiously, I have a genuine interest to know most things posted here & generally know who the regular posters are, that said I agree one doesn't have to be posting regularly to know what is happening in the thread.

I'm a bit curious as to why you state you have been a member here since '03 when your join date says Oct '07.

In my humble opinion if you had of waited for people to ask about where to buy & who to talk to re your recommended rotors, before pasting up links etc, it would not have seemed like self or associated promotion & hence my jumping to that conclusion, although I could be very wrong & stand corrected if so :)

If you hold the down shift paddle while braking for a turn the tranny automatically blips down the gears as you slow, until you release the brakes and roll on the gas in the optimum gear. (which shouldn't be too hard since there is 440 ft/lbs from 3-7000 rpm)

Favorite line from Top Gear article.

No mathematical calculus is needed to prove that it's the best sports car ever made. I suspect that it is. Whether it's a car that you'd fall in love with, or drive for the sheer bloody hell of it, well, even the world's cleverest boffins have no answer to that.

No worries, my friend. Indeed my words could be misconstrued, as my involvement w/ this thread has been minimal at bests (in terms of posting, while I've posted of merit/content on other MP4-12C threads in this subforum) - though I'm well versed w/ every new post in this very thread as you are. I actually do plan to acquire an MP4-12C in a year or two, spec'd from the factory. So, by no means am I trolling/spamming/selling. With regards to the MOV'IT carbon-ceramic disc scenario I mentioned, well I'll leave it to the keen observers/enthusiasts do their due-diligence regarding such as I/myself know them to be a far superior offering to whatever is currently available, as well as being a viable alternative to the factory setup along w/ having its own advantages (duality of "steel" & carbon-composite brake setups, if so desired). Of-course my word/stature doesn't carry much weight here, so be it - but I actually know a thing or two w/ regards to this (carbon-brakes).

Regarding my current user-profile which shows '07 as my sign-up date, well I had a former user-profile from '03 which somehow-someway went awry (I no longer have access to it nor the email I used for its registration). In-essence, I was a lurker in '02, signed-up in '03, re-registered in '07. Same user-ID as always (Lotus, NSX, Lexus forums). Lastly, I am also indeed a former F-car owner.

    Regards...

Those super lightweight wheels in standard finish look a lot better than I thought they would with volacano orange. I thought stealth pack would be a must, but with the new darker hue of V orange, those are sharp. Nice pics.

Good thing Kimi is no longer with McLaren. It would take a ton of Herky Jerky ads to pay for a 12C.

LOL, that's great. I have a big grin on my face just hearing you say that. Can't wait to get my chance here in the states.

I've been following this thread since it started under the 458 topic with all the haters and naysayers of the 12C. I notice none of them are continuing with their unsupported rants after you lucky few have had first hand drive experience, especially you Andy with a video to boot.
    Well done!

I agree. I am now thinking volcano orange, carbon mirrors (so they are less obvious), no stealth (I like to highlight the exhaust surround and wing gear), and super light wheels in silver. Likely carbon ceramic brakes with silver calipers, but I am leaving my options open until there is more info on the iron vs. cc. I really don't like drilled iron AP rotors, I have warped and cracked them fairly easily. Those holes can fill with brake dust and reduce cooling as well as create uneven wear and weak spots for cracks to occur. The ceramics are also larger which should provide better leverage, more surface area, and better modulation at the limits. I would like to know why they didn't use curved vane slotted iron rotors from AP, they are the preferred setup in my book.

I was not suggesting that at all.

That was precisely my point. With the exception of Miller in Connecticut and Lake Forest in Chicago, most of the NA Dealers do not have actual, physical facilities yet --- or even showrooms.

And guess what, if someone does not pre-sell their quota, you can bet their "Dealership" will never fully materialize....The same business model was used by Panoz several years back.

My understanding is that every dealer must have a dedicated McLaren showroom, built and renovated (i.e. fixtures and leaseholds) to HQ's spec. Do Miller and Lake Forest already have their McLaren showrooms built and renovated??

I am doubtful that any of the dealerships will go away before launch due to not hitting their quota.
