I was told by Dave Gooding that they aren't allowed to sell recreations or re-bodies at Monterey even if they have Ferrari vin #s, But he said he could at Amelia. Donnie Gould with RM said he couldn't sell them at either venue, And the same from Bonhams

The LHD replica of Edgar Schermerhorn. Built by Roelofs. No relation to DK.
Has a GTE engine out of #4007 GT.

Don't hate me Marcel, but I love it!

The replica sold by DK was also beautiful, wonder where it is now.

In a vaccum. If we forget that it's not genuine and is using a butchered ferrari part or chassis - but just looking at it. I would not mind owning that 250LM repro.

I struggle with that position. Aesthetically I think a fake/replica can be beautiful. Take the Glikenhaus fake 0846 for example… or some of the better done SWBs. I like the way those cars look as they replicate a design and a car that is beautiful. But, at the same time I also see the theft of design and the loss of an original car (presuming it wasn’t so badly damaged it couldn’t have been reasonably rebuilt) as bad for the brand and hobby. That’s made worse when those replica car’s owners intentionally lie or try to fool people.

    My thoughts:

One can now make wild and wonderful replicas without harming original cars.

That’s what I did with my Pur Sang Bugatti built in Argentina.

It’s what I plan to do with a GTO Engineering SWB California. No need for any original parts at all.

These cars are tributes to wonderful originals that I couldn’t otherwise afford.

Marcel, at the 79° Members Meeting GRRC at Goodwood last weekend there was a 250 LM (official entrant: Olav Glasius) for the Graham Hill Trophy driven by van der Lof and Buurman.

Is this the same car built by Roelofs?

Sorry Marcel, I have no pics or any info on the S/N.

I do know however that there was a 250 LM entered with start number 21 as stated in post #1966 .

I also remember (but can't recollect exactly where :( ) to have read an event report on the 79° Members Meeting by Roelofs Engineering where they commented that next to their 250 GTO 64 replica, also a familiar 250 LM was present.

The pic in post #1959 shows a 250 LM with start number 21 parked next to the Roelofs 250 GTO 64 replica with start number 111 - which is the start number at the 79° Members Meeting.

All this led me to to assume that the 250 LM at Goodwood last weekend is the Roelofs built replica - but I might be completely wrong. Other pictures might show if the car in post #1959 is LHD or RHD.

"250 LM" in pic 1959 is clearly RHD. Look closer.

That clearly refutes my theory and rules out the Roelofs replica.

But which 250 LM is it then? The Goodwood car was entered by Olav Glasius and driven by van der Lof and Buurman.

The only cars I am aware of as entered by Glasius and driven by van der Lof / Buurman are 3911 GT (250 GT SWB) and 0566 (340 F1).

An LM replica owned by Van der Lof.
No idea what kind of "number" it uses.

    AFAIK:

The van der Lof car is a replica of 6045 LM build by Roelofs Engineering (also in 1997?). Classic Dutch plates AR-51-59

The Schermerhorn car is a replica of 6167 LM. Classic Dutch Plates AH-51-59.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I do not know the origin of the chassis of the replicas of the Dutch 6045 LM and 6167 LM. Roelofs Engineering should know.

The 6167 LM replica is LHD which might suggest a 250 GTE 2+2 donor.
