You're welcome. This is Mike Parkes driving - too bad they weren't very fortunate on that Sunday afternoon.

I didn't go through the whole thread to see if this was posted already. I'm going through some 330 P3/4 stuf and came across a slide of 0846 at the Targa Florio. I thought it was a very cool picture with the dirt flying and the ominous background.
Don't know who owns the copyright (probably Marcel! :) ) but it's a slide so I guess the current owner.

    Best, Peter

Note the condition of the road ... heck those guys were brave. You can also see why these old cars still needed actual suspension.

I wish modern race cars had to be built for the real world too, but that would require real world races and that would never happen anymore ... for good reasons.

Real cars on real roads is real road racing... Something not seen since the demise of the Targa....

Sadly the conditions of those roads have deteriorated a lot and should you drive that course you have to be very careful.

The 24 Hours of Nurburgring is still run on roads and requires a lot of ground clearance and suspension travel. That race puts enormous forces/stress on race cars.

That's unfortunate. The Targa was a unique event. The Targa ate a lot of cars (as you well know better than anyone else) in all probability due to poor surfaces or deterioration of the roads or conditions that changed from one long lap to the next. You couldn't have an open road event like that today, those days are gone. I wasn't suggesting that the Targa be run again, I was only pointing out that the cars designed when that event was on the calendar had to be capable of being driven on real roads. Totally different than LMP cars of today.

Absolutely true and I have the utmost respect for any car that runs that event. Unfortunately we don't see LMP cars there any more and aren't likely to any time in the forseeable future. If they had to run the same LMP cars at the Ring as the rest of the series, LMP cars would be very different than what they currently are.
