As much as I hate the SUV Porsche's they saved the company and allow the 911 to continue to exist. I totally get that SUV's make the money that allow the halo cars to exist. That said Ferrari was not in financial dire straits as Porsche was and the creation of the SUV was merely done to appease the shareholders who have little interest beyond economic gain. Without a doubt they will sell tons of them and Ferrari will prosper because of it but I see it as selling one's soul not to survive but to just be more successful. I will add that Ferrari is not stupid at all. They ease people into getting comfortable with making a V12 differentiating it from the competition. Soon there will be a typical V6 hybrid that they will churn out as fast as they can make them abandoning the principles of exclusivity in favor of even greater profits.
I'm doubtful that 'Purosangue' ('thoroughbred') is a good choice of name for a Ferrari car that does not fall into sports car category. Ferrari 'i-FF-y' ('doubtful') would be a better name
Seems they actually use the FF system... with (apparently) the rear gearbox and front engine, a "real" 4WD system would require two transmission shafts (like in the Nissan GT-R), which does not appear to be the case. I cannot even tell from the first specs if it has any front wheel drive capacity, or if it's a pure RWD.
I don't see it as selling one's soul as long as they don't ignore their bread and butter. The fact that we still have the 296, SF90, and next Hypercar does not make me lose sleep. I get it if Enzo was uncompromising in what their road cars should offer; the fact Enzo allowed 2+2s and was scared to offer mid-engine due to safety concerns makes me ponder who the 'true' purists are. Believe it or not, most people would call me a 'purist' in how I approach things. That is precisely why I hold the position about Ferrari as I do. *** You and I share a love for the vintage; I honestly ask myself, will this make our cars more valuable or less? Did the Cayenne hurt the 911? Did the LM002 hurt the Contach? Did the Europa hurt Esprit? Did the Quattroporte hurt the MC12? Did the Romeo 3 hurt the 33 Stradale? Need I go on? I think you can guess my answers.
No, Marcel, you were wrong: Purosangue is the correct name, as everyone knew. It looks you were one of the very few who didn't know it nor two weeks before car introduction. Have a good evening. Ciao
yup. maybe they didnt want to spend development $ on new awd when its eventually going to be hybrid anyway
I’ll never be able to afford one, and I will still judge it . I just don’t like it. Inside and out. Just awful
This whole "SUV" saved Porsche is complete nonsense. More like the boxster "saved" Porsche... https://newsroom.porsche.com/en_US/company/porsche-cars-north-america-sales-statistics-18190.html Worldwide and US sales pre-SUV: 1997 13,731 (U.S. 12,986) 1998 18,207 (U.S. 17,239) 1999 21,915 (U.S. 20,889) 2000 23,698 (U.S. 22,412) 2001 24,143 (U.S. 23,047) Ferrari SUV is just because they could...at production level of somewhere around 1000 per year (sharing a V12 line that can only produce about 2200 engines per year), it could of easily been superseded in revenue by a regular production rear-mid-engine V12.... As for a V6-hybrid FUV, we will see, but seems doubtful, next stop is full BEV FUV, of course it might be 5 more years before that is ready for production...
On Purosangue and Ferrari direction in general - When Ferrari will start to realize again, that 'less' is sometimes 'more'?
You’re showing a certain naivety... The more you try to defend Ferrari at all costs, without critical thinking, the more you desert them in the end... PS is just here for RACE.
It depends = if they leave F1 and Le Mans, I definitely agree with you. What would it take to leave F1 and Le Mans? Hmm, I wonder. What caused Ferrari to threaten to leave F1 just a few years ago? Take a guess, friend. I'll give you a clue, Benjamin Franklin has his pictures on many of them.
-You are Correct on the name that was never the issue it was how you conducted yourself doing so. -Really are you that childish that you pull me up over a typo that I then corrected in my next post ? Maybe in the future be a gentleman and say it to my face then act like a punk keyboard warrior
Projection is funny when witnessed= Yes, PS is here just for RACE; you're exactly correct. But don't stop there; keep pulling on that string...
My $.02 - I like it. Sporty. That rear 3/4 view is going to be stunning in person. Great haunches. - Cant stand that dual dashboard interior. - I think they would sell more if it were larger like the Urus or Cayenne. This is an odd compromise in size. but Im sure they will sell plenty. - Even though this is far better looking, Id take a Urus over this as its more practical for my lifestyle. This just doesnt fit what id need.
my issues was how it was conducted not about who was right or wrong. How old are you 5 this is not the conduct of adult.
would like to see comparison test vs new uris performante. i think the uris would be more fun and more practical with 5 seats. ferrari looks so much better though
Ha! I watched again the Ferrari's video, and realized they've implemented Rolls-Royce's door closure button for the rear passengers! Do they also offer a set of umbrellas too? Oh and BTW, this is Ferrari's FIRST 4-door car in production!
zoom out from 1997-2001 If only businesses are judged by 2-3 years. I'm a simple man that asks simple questions. 1) Do the other cars help or hurt the 911 and 718? 2) Did SUVs lower or increase Porsche's brand equity? 3) Did the nonsports cars hurt or help vintage Porsche cars? Bonus question Do Porsche's record-breaking profits contribute to or hurt their decision to enter Formula 1? Image Unavailable, Please Login
This car seems absolutely pointless. The only reason to get one is you hate Lambo, Merc, BMW or Porsche.
I hope to get to the stage one day in my life when more $$$ is pointless. Or, in Ferrari's situation, more $$$ for racing is pointless.
