    Hey Guys,

Unfortunately, one of our long-time customers had another shop up in Los Angeles work on the fuel system on his Lamborghini Espada. And well... within 24 hours of him picking it up - this happened, and his garage is toast along with his 2 other contemporary cars. It's a shame, it's here for Gary (being an expert witness) to spend some time to diagnose the root cause and figure out the start of the fire.

The owner did get out of the car in time and is okay, just bummed out.

    Carlo

FYI: It's really not going to be restored!

Can you share the Chassis-Nr of this car, then we can mark it as a loss in the registries.

Sobering on a number of levels. Today’s nasty gasolines, and fuel hoses which seem less durable than what we all grew up with make this the stuff of nightmares, and that’s before possible human error is factored in.

I think we all know who is responsible for this fire ... now to prove it.

    Horrific photos.

I'd bet that there's almost nothing that can be salvaged from the car, maybe the knock off spinners?
If you've ever worked on the fuel system of one of these you'd know just how dangerous it potentially is.
The only thing separating those two huge gas tanks from the leather line interior is a fiberglass backing to the sides of the rear cargo area.
The rubber fuel line enters the passenger compartment by going through the rear bulk head under the seat and runs along the LH sill under the carpet then up under the dash into the engine compartment!
Then there's that crazy gas tank venting system with the hand made check valves assembled and inserted in the vent hoses.
Oh and don't forget to check and properly clamp the fuel filler hose on the necks that barely has any room for a clamp.
There are a lot of difficult to access and secure places for there to be leaks on these cars.

Never get rear ended in one of these.

Wow, that first photo really gave me a start. When I saw the knock-offs I was afraid it was my long owned and much loved S1 Espada that I sold last year. Then I noticed the gas struts on the hatch windows and read that it was a Series II. I agree about the fuel delivery system. When I went through my car renewing and upgrading the fuel system was a very involved, time consuming and costly process. I know of several wonderful cars that were lost to fires because of inattention to these design quirks.

In these Cars-On-Fire-Questions - is it possible to reuse parts of the carrosseria?
Now this car looks like Austrian "Knusper-Bread" - but it's a Lamborghini!

Any idea on what will happen to what's left after the cause of the fire has been diagnosed?

The insurance Company towed the car to a unknown location, could be Copart? And yes, the cause was diagnosed, and the problem was found by me,of which I can not legally speak about, as there may be litigation involved with the shop who last worked on the car.
